Intruder

Indiana's POV

It's been two weeks since we got back from Alaska. Bella has been to the rez twice. She wasn't happy when she found out about Victoria, who got away again. I think she has a gift. An enhanced self-preservation, which is why she always seems to escape. Even from the wolves. Eleazar agrees, it's a possibility. So the family and pack have been coming up with new ways to tackle Victoria next time. Separately, as they still aren't getting along. Even with Embry and I together.

Luna is now three weeks old. The pack haven't seen her since I woke up as I hate her leaving my sight for long. I trust Embry and the wolves to protect her. But, I am just on edge constantly if I can't see her. Like when I hunt, I usually call a deer to the house. As I don't want to go far and miss anything.

Anyway today Jacob stole Belka from school. As Edward stopped her everytime she decided to visit the rez. But as Alice can't see the packs futures. She didn't see Jacob taking Bella from school. She's been there all day and it's driving Edward crazy.

"She's fine Edward, Embry said so" I remind him.

"I don’t trust Jacob" he states.

"You don't have to trust him, trust Bella" I tell him. "Hold your niece, she'll help you relax" I state. Offering her to him. He takes her gently and sits beside me. "Don’t you feel better?" I ask him.

"Yes, I do" he agrees. "I asked Bella to marry me" he states.

"Really? What did she say?" I ask him.

"She is still on the fence about it, but I'm sure she'll agree" he tells me. "What about Embry and you?" he asks.

"Not engaged, he is sixteen and I am fifteen. But he promised to marry me one day" I tell him. "Probably when he is 18" I state.

"You both are a good couple and are amazing parents" he tells me.

"Thanks, but Luna has been an angel so far" I remind him. Just then Alice appears. She looks at Edward, who hands me back Luna.

"Bella is on her way back" he states.

"You should bring her over, she hasn't meet Luna yet" I state.

"You sure?" Edward asks.

"It'll be fine" Alice assures him. He nods and left. "I get to plan your future wedding,  right?" She asks me.

"Of course, but you'll have to do it the old fashioned way. No foresight can help you with my future wedding " I tell her.

"I know" she says with a groan and I giggle. She freezes. Then calls Emmet and Jasper down. "Go to Bella's, there was an intruder" she tells them. They nod and left. Not long after Edward arrived with Bella and we gather for a family meeting.

"Who was it? Someone we know?" Alice asks Edward. As I feed Luna a bottle.

"Just a stranger. I didn't recognize his scent" he answers.

"A nomad passing through?" Mum asks.

"A  passer-by wouldn't have left Bella's father alive" Rosalie states. Bella's seems chilled by the thought. I know I am. Mum wraps an arm around Bella and dad does the same to me. As the door bursts open. Jasper and Emmett have returned safely.

"His scent disappeared about five miles south of Bella's house" Jasper tells us.

"Someone's got to be orchestrating this" I state.

"Victoria?" Dad suggests.

"I would've seen her deciding" Alice reminds us.

"It has to be the Volturi" Edward states.

"I don't think it's the Volturi either. I've been watching Aro's decisions, too" Alice reminds us.

"So we keep looking" Emmett states.

"We also take shifts, guarding Bella at her house" dad adds.

"Another protection detail?" Rosalie asks, not happy.

"Rosalie " mum says in a gentle scolding tone.

"No, she's right. You can't protect me, watch my dad... ... and search for the intruder. And for Victoria. And keep yourselves fed. Especiailly with a baby around" Bella states.

"Speaking of, Bella I'd like you to meet my daughter Luna" I tell her.

"She beautiful" she compliments and I smile. As I gently burp Luna. Who falls back to sleep.

"Girls, focus" dad tells us.

"I'm not leaving you here defenseless" Edward tells Bella.

"We can't leave Indiana and Luna defenseless either" Rosalie adds.

"Well, I'm not gonna let you starve. And we wouldn't be unprotected, we have..." Bella stops mid-sentence.

"What?" Edward asks.

"The pack" I finish. "I am Embry's imprint, they'd die for Luna and I. Aslo Bella is Jacob's best friend, he'd die for her" I state.

"I don’t like it" he states.

"There's a shock" I grumble. "Edward, they'll protect us whither you like it or not. So grow up" I tell him. "Is it ok if I spend time at your house?" I ask Bella. "It'd be easier if we were in the same place for those guarding" I state.

"Sure, no problem" she assures me.

"I'll call Embry and have a member of the pack come over tomorrow. So that they can learn the intruder's scent" I state. She nods her head.

"Until then, I think it best you stay here tonight" dad tells her. She nods her head. "Esme and I will go guard Charlie, though it is unlikely the intruder will return tonight" he states. "Indiana, call Embry" he tells me. I nod and he left with mum.

I called Embry as Bella went upstairs with Edward, to sleep. The next morning Embry and Jacob came over. Jacob went to get the scent of the intruder. While Embry, checked on Luna and I. He asked if she could come to the rez when it was time for Bella to be guarded by the pack. I agreed reluctantly, he promised to give me hourly updates.
