Face-off with Volturi

Indiana's POV

Last night Luna and Renesmee had a sleepover in the tent. Embry stayed to with them to keep them warm. While Jacob stayed with us vampires. As the older vampires exchanged old war stories. The packs were not far in wolf form. It was a calm night.

But now we're all in the clearing waiting for the Volturi to arrive with their witnesses. Embry stands beside me in wolf form as I hold our daughter. Who is dressed warmly, wrapped up in a blanket Embry's mum had knitted for her this Christmas. Jacob stands by Edward, Bella and Renesmee. The rest of the pack lay in wait in the trees for the Volturi to arrive.

"Indiana" dad says and I look at him. "No matter what happens today. Your mother and I want you to know we love you very much" he states.

"We're also very proud of you" mum adds.

"I love you both too" I tell them. "And our family" I add smiling at my siblings. They smile back. I then smile at our cousins and notice Garrett beside Kate.

"If we live through this, I'll follow you anywhere, woman" he tells her.

"Now he tells me" she mutters, but smiles. We soon hear the Volturi and their witnesses arriving. We turn in the direction and wait. Suddenly Aro and his army become visible and it's clear that they outnumber us. I gulp and hold Luna closer. She is awake, but not babbling like usual. She senses the atmosphere.

"Aro's looking for Alice" Edward tells us. As Aro and his army get closer, we see the wolf packs coming out to join us. I relax a little at their presence. Aro and his army stand in a line facing. Dad steps forward to talk.

"Aro, Iet us discuss things as we used to. In a civilized manner" he says.

"Fair words, Carlisle. But a little out of place, given the battalion you've assembled against us"  Aro states.

"I can promise you, that was never my intent. No laws have been broken" dad assures him.

"We see the children. Do not treat us as fools" Caius sneers.

"My daughter is only a baby" I state. "You've seen her grow Irina" I sneer glaring at her. How dare she put my daughter and niece in danger.

"Let your father handle this" mum tells me.

"Neither are immortal! These witnesses can attest to that. Or you can look. See the flush of human blood in their cheeks" dad tells them. As I have Luna face the Volturi.

"Artifice" Caius sneers.

"I will collect every facet of the truth. But from someone more central to the story. Edward, as the child clings to your newborn mate and the baby is in your sister's arms. I assume you are involved" Aro says. Edward looks at Bella then makes his way towards Aro.

He allows Aro to read his thoughts. Aro said he'd like to meet Luna and Renesmee. So Bella and I start towards them with our daughters. Jacob, Embry and Jacob coming also. "Ah. Young Bella. Immortality becomes you" Aro says with a smile. "It's an honour to finally meet you Indiana" he says looking at me.

"It's a pleasure" I tell him politely.

"I hear their heart beats" he states.

"My daughter Luna, only seven months old" I tell him. "I had a difficult labor, which would have resulted in my death if my father hadn't changed me. I am lucky to have such good self-control that I can raise her without fear of hurting her" I state.

"I can't imagine how hard it must of been to have a child so young" he tells me. He holds a hand out to me. I tighten my grip on Luna. "You may go back to your family with your daughter" he states. I look at the others and Edward nods at me to go. So Embry and I return to our side of the field. Mum wraps her arm around me as Renesmee approaches Aro.

"Hello, Aro" she says. Renesmee then touches Aro's cheek, using her powers on him, Aro becomes transfixed by what she shows him.

"Magnifico! Half mortal, half immortal. Conceived and carried by this newborn while she was still human" Aro tells his witnesses.

"Impossible" Caius sneers.

"Do you think they fooled me brother?" Aro asks him. Bella, Edward and Renesmee walk back to rejoin us. Jacob and Emmett following them. I face Luna away from the Volturi to try protect her from the cold.

"Bring the informer forward" Caius says and Irina is brought forward. "Are these the children you saw?" he asks her. Irina looks at Renesmee and Luna.

"I'm not sure" she admits.

"Jane" he says.

"They've changed!" she exclaims. "These children are bigger. And I never accused them of turning Luna" she states.

"Then your allegations about the child was false" Caius states.

"The Cullens are innocent. I take full responsibility for my mistake" she states. She looks at her sisters. "I'm sorry" she tells them before she was killed and lit on fire. I'm glad I had Luna turned away. But she whimpered as Kate and Tanya shout in horror. They run towards Aro, Emmett and Eleazar restrained Tanya. While Garrett gets hold of Kate, she uses her power to electrocute him. But he doesn't let go of her.

Edward then turns to Zafrina. "Blind them" he tells her and she does so. Tanya demands to have her sight back. "Tanya, this is what they want. If you attack now, we'll all die" Edward tells her. She and Kate relax. They are let go and had their sight returned. Jane tried to use her gift, but Bella shields us all. I give her a proud smile.

"Aro, you see there's no law broken here" dad tells him.

"Agreed. But does it then follow that there is no danger? For the first time in our history humans pose a threat to our kind. Their modern technology has given birth to weapons that could destroy us. Maintaining our secret has never been more imperative. In such perilous times, only the known is safe. Only the known is tolerable. And we know nothing of what this child will become" Aro says gesturing to Renesmee. "Can we live with such uncertainty? Spare ourselves a fight today, only to die tomorrow?" he asks. "Also what of your granddaughter when she realizes the truth about you all, can she be trusted to keep the secret?" he asks. Embry snarls.

Just then Alice and Jasper enter the clearing. They had brought three new witnesses. One of which is a hybrid like Renesmee. Except he is a guy and is a hundred fifty years old. He apparently has several half-sisters also. It was proven Renesmee would not be a threat to exposing vampires to humans. "These children are much like us" Marcus says, speaking for the first time.

"Regardless, the Cullens have been consorting with werewolves. Our natural enemies" Caius states.

"Actually, they are shifters. Who just happen to turn into wolves" I correct him. Aro turns to face his witnesses and coven.

"Dear ones, there is no danger here. We will not fight today" he tells them and they leave. He looks at my dad. "We'll be keeping an eye on you Carlisle. We wish to monitor the child's growth and ensure that your granddaughter won't expose us in future" he states.

"Of course, you are welcome anytime. But no need for the witnesses in future" dad tells him. Aro nods and then looks at Bella.

"Such a prize" he says under his breath before leaving. I hug Embry around the neck. As everyone rejoices, we're safe and no one got hurt. Though it is sad about Irina. We'll have to have a funeral for her soon. Embry and Jacob left with the packs. Mum and dad hug me.

"Lets get your daughter and Renesmee out of this weather" mum tells me. I nod my head in agreement. We all go home. Vladimir and Stefan had already left. The rest of the witnesses left the following day promising to stay in contact. Garrett went with our cousins, as he is Kate's mate. I wonder if he'll adopt our diet?
