Indiana Meets Volturi Guard

(June 15th, 2006) Indiana's POV

I dropped Luna off at Emily's last night before hunting with my family. I admit, I am missing her greatly and I am worried about her safety. I've never left her for more then a few hours for hunting since I woke up. But I trust Emily to take care of her. Besides Brady and Colin are there to protect all the imprints & Luna. While the rest of the pack will help us kill the newborns. Well Seth is guarding Bella with Edward up in the mountains. I hope she wasn't to cold last night.

A wave of calm is sent my way. "I'm fine Jasper" I assure him.

"Focus on the battle" he tells me.

"I will, but can you blame me?" I ask him. "I've never been away from her so long while awake" I remind him.

"I understand that, but none of us can afford to be distracted" he tells me.

"They're coming" Alice announces and I hear the newborns heading our way. They are following the blood trail Bella had left yesterday. We all get in formation. I'm between mum and dad. We watch the newborns enter the clearing looking confused. Jasper strikes first and kills the first newborn. The others look at him shocked and we strike. Three of them go down, tackled by mum, Rosalie, dad, Emmett, Alice and I.

When the newborns go to flee. Sam appears with the pack and they join the fight. As Alice and I behead the vampire we had tackled. The wolves tear several of the newborns apart. I take a moment to assess the battle. Emmett sprints full-bore into the fight, relishing the battle. The wolves work as a pack, coordinated, deadly. Jasper controls the field, strategy and speed vs strength. Rosalie fights with icy calm. Alice with precognition. Esme and Carlisle fight side by side. The newborns are brutal and strong as hell. But so far we have suffered no injuries.

Embry tackles a newborn that tried to sneak up behind me. Removing it's head. I give him a smile and we join the fray working together. As Jacob finally joins the battle, tackling a newborn, going for it's neck. Sam and him charge a newborn, each wolf grab an arm in the mouths and rip. Paul is surrounded by Three Newborns; I go to his aid with Emmett. He gives us a grateful look and we rejoin the main battle.

I corner a newborn by a tree with Embry, who snarls at it. But something about her stops me. She's scared and does not look like she wants to fight. "Wait" I tell Embry. He looks at me confused as I look at the girl. Mum and dad appear, we all share a look.

"We got this darling, rejoin the others" Mum tells me. I nod and jump onto Embry's back. He snarls, but turns and rejoins the battle. I jump off his back and tackle a newborn ripping it's arms off. Embry then tears it's head off.

I notice Jasper keeps covering Alice's back and that a newborn notices. I snarl phasing and tackle the newborn. Ripping it's head off with my teeth. 'Wondered when you would join us Indiana' Quil teases.

'Focus' Sam snaps as the battle continues. We quickly finish the last of the newborns and I relax huffing. Embry nuzzles me and I like his muzzle. Happy he is ok. We go off so that I can change into the clothes Alice had brought for me. While the others start to pile the bodies to burn them.

When we return, I notice Edward has arrived with Bella and Seth. Suddenly a newborn exits the trees and I curse. We'd missed one. Leah charges it. "Leah, don't!" Edward shouts. The male newborn maneuvers out of her way, spins and grabs her ruff. Yanking her off her paws, but Jacob leaps on the newborn. Tackling him away from Leah and they roll into the clearing. Jacob managed to bite part of his face off, but the newborn gets his arms around Jacob and squeezes. Jacob howls in agony.

Embry and the rest of the pack are instantly there. They pounce on the newborn, their teeth forcing him to release Jacob who crumples to the ground. As they pull newborn apart. Edward and Dad go to Jacob's side to exam him. He had transformed back to human.

"Hold on, Carlisle is gonna take care of you" Edward assures him. As dad exams Jacob's body.

"The bones on the right half of his body are shattered" dad states. As the pack appear dressed and human. While Emmett and Jasper tossed the last newborn onto the fire. The pack had to leave before the Volturi guards arrived. Who are close now.

"We'll take him back to Billy's" Sam tells dad.

"I'll be there as soon as I can" dad assures him.

"I'll go get our daughter and meet you there" Embry tells me. I nod and kiss him. Before he helped the others pick up Jacob and they left the clearing. My family and I then huddle around the burning bodies with Bella. And the newborn we'd spared, waiting for the Volturi guard.

"They're here" Alice states. I look to see four cloaked figures enter the clearing. Dad wraps his free arm around my shoulders.

"It appears you've done our work for us" the only girl states. By the description I had gotten from Alice. She must be Jane. Demetri and Alec on her right and Felix on her left. "Impressive. I've never seen a coven escape an assault of this magnitude intact" she states.

"We were lucky" dad assures her.

"I doubt that" she states.

"It appears we missed an entertaining fight" Alec adds.

"Yes. It's not often we're rendered unnecessary" Jane states.

"If you'd arrived a half hour ago, you would've fulfilled your purpose" Edward tells her.

"Pity" she says. Then looks at Bree and I. "You missed two" she states.

"I'm Indiana Cullen" I tell her.

"Ah, I see the news of you being turned is true. I'll be sure to let Aro know" Jane states. "But she is no Cullen" she adds looking at Bree.

"We offered her asylum in exchange for her surrender" dad tells her.

"That wasn't yours to offer" Jane tells him and tortures the poor girl. Who could tell her nothing as she knew nothing. Edward told her that the newborns were created by Victoria.

"Edward. If the Volturi had knowledge of Victoria, they would've stopped her. Isn't that right, Jane?" dad asks her.

"Of course, Felix" Jane says. Felix goes to kill Bree.

"She didn't know what she was doing. We'll take responsibility for her. Give her a chance" mum pleads.

"The Volturi don't give second chances. Keep that in mind. Caius will be interested to know that she's still human" Jane warns eyeing Bella.

"The date is set" Bella assures her. Felix kills Bree and tosses her onto the fire. Then the Volturi guard leave. Dad and I then race to La Push. Embry was there with the pack and Luna. I take her into my arms, glad she is safe. While dad goes inside to tend to Jacob, he has to re-break his bones as they are healing wrong. Embry and I leave as neither of us want Luna hearing the screams.
