Eddie had gotten a call from his abuella about a broken or loose pipe under her sink. He promised her he would come over and fix it after he dropped chris off at school.
Buck had spent the night at his place so he offered to take chris so eddie could handle the pipes. He thanked him and was truly thankful for him.
Once eddie gets to the house he carrying his tools in and says hello to his abuella.
"Did you turn off the water?" He asked and knew the look on her face.
"It stopped itself" she says and he knew she was lying and probably had been about the whole ordeal.
Even though he feels this he follows her into the house.
"Pipes don't fix themselves" he says and places his tools down only to look into the kitchen.
He sees a young Mexican girl and her abuella.
"Neither do nephews" she says and he feels sick. He groans and walks back out of the doorway and around the corner.
He knows his abuella followed him and he turned to face her.
"Abuella I don't want you setting me up" he tries and hopes she might listen.
"Why mijo? You can't do it yourself" she says and he bit his lip.
He has always wanted to tell his abuella the truth but was always scared of her rejection so he just gives in and meets the girl.
He knows he won't be having a second date. They meet at some bar she chose and he sits there in front of her feeling nervous
"so about the date" he said and she smiled.
"You came here to let me down easy right?" She said and he was surprised she knew
"I can tell you don't bat for my kind and also I'm not ready for a relationship so I bring my dates here and let them down" she said and he felt himself relax.
"Alright well our abuela's are going to grill us so we have to get our story straight" he says and she smiled.
They make a plan and head their separate ways. The next day he is back at his abuela's in her kitchen this time.
"So how was it?" She asked and he tried to remember the details.
"We went to the Italian place down the street. She had the ravioli and I had the mushroom soup" he said and then realized he messed up on their orders.
"Oh? Mushroom soup? You hate mushrooms" she said and he gulped.
"Mijo what happened?" She said and sits down.
He sighed "she was nice and it was nice to talk to her but neither of us wanted to be with each other." He said and hoped it was enough for her
"And why is that?" She said and he gulped.
"I... it's because I don't like girls" he said it so quietly it could have been a wisper.
She gasped and eddie shut his eyes tightly waiting for the hurtful words. His parents had convinced him if he was ever gay or even slightly liked men everyone would hate him.
He feels arms around him and a kiss to his head.
"Oh mijo I'm so sorry. I'm so proud of you for telling me. Is it buck?" She says and he is speechless. He nods and takes a deep breath
"you don't hate me?" He asks and she holds tighter cursing his parents names quietly
"Of course not I will always love you mijo. Now tell me everything" she said and he smiled.
He tells her about how he and buck just started going out. He told her about the way going on the date made buck scared and she promises to never set him up again.
"I like him mijo. I have since the day I met him at the hospital." She said and he smiled.
"Thank you abuela" he said and she smiled
"of course mijo. I do expect to have dinner with him and chris soon. Like this Sunday." She said and he tensed up.
"But Pepa will be there" He said and she chuckled.
"It's alright she knows too. She told me about the way you look at buck. Of course when I saw the two of you I instantly knew you liked him." She said and he chuckled softly.
"Alright I will tell him we have family dinner when I get home" he says and she smiled.
"Good. I'm happy for you mijo and for chris he is amazing with that kid" she said and he chuckled
"Yea he is" he replies his heart full of love
