Never Again

Evan has never been happier to return to Atlantis as he is in that moment. The mission had been a pain in the ass and he is sure if he had stayed in that planet any longer he had shot the scientist that had been assigned to his team for that particular mission.

Now, don't get him wrong, he is usually really patient when it came to the scientists, but this one, well, this one made him want to shot him after just ten minutes on the planet. Normally, scientists are pretty good at following his directions, especially when it came to their safety. Not this one. This one thought he knew better and that Evan's team was there to abide to his every order, almost as if he was the leader of the team and Evan was nothing more than chopped liver.

Evan had never been more eager to return to Atlantis as he was while on the planet. He made the mental note to talk to Sheppard about it, because the last thing he wants is to be paired up with that scientist again and then having to explain to Weir why he had shot the man or left him behind to fend for himself on some foreign planet.

Sheppard watches Lorne crossing the gate and immediately knows that something must've happen while off-world. He doesn't think he has ever seen Lorne arrive from a routine mission as pissed as he looked in that moment and it has definitely something to do with Dr. Lewis, if the looks he keeps sending the man are any indication.

-"Lorne. Everything okay?" - Sheppard walks down the steps, already seeing that the man isn't in the best of moods.

-"No."

-"Alright, what happened?" - Sheppard doesn't understand, usually Lorne is very patient with the scientists.

-"Well, basically, Dr. Lewis thought he was the one in charge of my team, going as far as giving orders to my guys and refusing to listen to me whenever I told him anything regarding his safety. I swear I thought about shooting him more than once."

-"I get it. Look, I'll try and not put him with your team again. I know you're usually pretty patient with scientists so the least I can do is keep Lewis away from your team."

-"I appreciate that, Sheppard."

-"You know what? I know exactly what will chase that bad mood of yours away. Come with me."

Evan has to admit he is curious. In all the years he has worked with Sheppard, and has been his friend, he has never seen the man look so mysterious. Evan follows him, first to the locker room to get his gear off, and then across the city to where all the personnel's private quarters are located.

At one point, Evan asked Sheppard where he was taking him, but all the man had answered was a "You'll see.", nothing more. Evan can't help but be confused with Sheppard's whole demeanor.

Suddenly, they stop outside someone's quarters. Evan hears Sheppard telling him to knock on the door and that he'll see him later, giving him a playful smirk that reminds him of the cat that ate the canary.

Evan takes a deep breath, thinking that this better be worth all the secrecy, before knocking on the door. He can hear movement from inside the room and wonders who could possibly be on the other side. But he is definitely not expecting who he sees when the doors open.
