7 - Assessments

[The scene starts with Katniss and Peeta walking back into the training rooms side by side.]

[They automatically notice the Career tributes looking over to them with judgmental and predatorial gazes.]

Katniss: Throw that metal thing over there.

[Peeta looks at her confused, looking to where she is pointing, seeing a large, heavy metal spiked ball.]

Peeta: What? No. Haymitch says we're not supposed to show our skills.

Katniss: I don't care what Haymitch said. Those guys are looking at you like you're a meal.

[Katniss subtly points at the ball once again.]

Katniss: Throw it.

[Peeta hesitates for a moment before walking over to the ball.]

[He grabs the handle, his muscles visibly straining under the weight.]

[He then raises it and chucks it over his shoulder at high speed, causing it to crash into a stand holding an assortment of swords.]

The Avengers all watched, impressed. Many of them had been training for years yet wouldn't be able to lift that. Yet this 16-year-old kid comes along and shows them all up.

[The camera zooms over to the careers again, who now look oddly impressed by the display.]

[The Time cuts to later in training, and Katniss walks up to Peeta, who is painting his arm.]

Katniss: Hi.

[Peeta looks up from his work and gives her a gentle smile.]

Peeta: Hey.

Katniss: How did you do that?

[She points at his arm, which is painted to look like a tree.]

Peeta: I uh... I used to take care of the cakes down at the bakery. I'll show you.

[Peeta stands up and places his hand next to a tree that had been placed in the room.]

[His hand and arm blended in perfectly with the tree, making it seem as if it wasn't there at all.]

"He's a talented kid," Steve says, impressed with Peeta's art abilities.

"Yeah. He painted something on my hand once. I wish it was permanent; it was one of the most beautiful pieces of art I'd ever seen." Blake responds with a reminiscent smile.

Peeta: See.

[Katniss looked at him with an impressed smile.]

Katniss: Wow.

Peeta: Yeah.

[Peeta looks behind Katniss and sees someone watching them.]

Peeta: I think you have a shadow.

[Katniss turns around and sees Rue hiding in the shadows, but she smiles shyly when she realises that Katniss has spotted her.]

Everyone smiles at Blake at the sight of Rue. They had grown a soft spot for her, and it was hard not to; Blake knew this firsthand, but she knew what was coming and was in the process of emotionally dethatching herself.

[The scene now cuts back to the District 11 apartment floor where Rue and Thresh are sitting on a sofa, with Viv standing in front of them, while Seeder is seen in the kitchen in the background making several cups of tea.]
