Episode 5.3 - The Victors' Tributes pt.1

[We see Viv standing in a large white padded room. Behind her are Sarah and Robert, watching her intently.]

[Viv was holding onto five knives, two in one hand and three in the other.]

[Viv is standing there focused with perfect posture. She then suddenly throws the two knives in her right hand at the same and then throws the remaining three knives in quick succession.]

[We see both Sarah and Robert's eyes widen, and their jaws slack slightly.]

[The camera moves to show the target, a life-sized mannequin that now had five knives implanted into it, one in each shoulder, one in the middle of its forehead, one going into where the heart would be, and the final one was impaled deeply into its stomach.]

Viv: Right. Shut your mouth; you'll catch flies. Grab a knife and follow my instructions.

[Robert and Sarah quickly moved to grab a knife.]

The Avengers' mouths were gaped; they knew she was an excellent knife thrower, but they rarely got to see it in action. It was simply amazing. Even the assassins in the room were impressed with her skills.

[A few days later, Viv, Robert, Sarah, Iris, and the two stylists are sat around eating breakfast together.]

[Once she finishes eating, she looks up at the pair of tributes.]

Viv: So, as you know, today is when you'll get your assessments done. Show off what we have been practising.

[Viv leans in to whisper to the pair so that the 3 Capitol people can't hear.]

Viv: If they're like last year, they will probably show a lack of interest because, to be honest, they're dicks. So, you have to do something to make you stand out.

Robert: What did you do?

[Viv chuckles at the memory of what she did last year.]

Viv: I threw a scythe towards them and decapitated a cooked pig they had.

Fury and Maria, who had missed this happening as they entered later to watch Blake's life, were in shock.

She decapitated a pig to prove a point?

They were shocked, but they honestly weren't that surprised. It definitely sounded like something Blake would do, and by the smug smile currently resting on Blake's face, that was a definite fact.

[Both Sarah and Robert's jaws drop as they stare at Viv in disbelief.]

Viv: Yeah. I know.

Sarah: Seriously?

Viv: Yep.

Robert: Did you get in trouble?

Viv: No. They were already sending me into the arena. There wasn't much worse they could do to me anyway.

[Viv looks down for a moment before looking back up.]

Viv: So you both know what you're doing, right?

[Both tributes nod.]

Sarah & Robert: Yeah.

Viv: Good. There is no more training now. You have the assessment today; we'll sit in the living room and watch all the scores tonight, and then tomorrow will be the tributes show or whatever it's called.

[Viv's done drops before saying her following sentence.]

Viv: Then, the morning after, you enter the arena.

[Both Sarah and Robert sadly nod at the words coming out of Vivienne's mouth. They knew it was coming, but they hated hearing about it because it made it a reality.]

Viv: Right; you both better get down there for your assessments. Don't want you to be late. Good luck.

[They all walk to the elevator together.]

[Viv presses the button for them that will take them to where they do the assessments and steps back out of the elevator, offering them a small smile and a nod.]

[The scene cuts again to later In the day, where they are all gathered together waiting for their scores.]

[After a while of waiting and listening to the other tributes scores – minus District 12's – District 11's came on the screen.]

Caesar: Now, we have the District that holds our most recent Victor, Vivienne Blake – The Capitol's Raven, who managed to get a very impressive score of 11 last year - District 11.

Caesar: So, from District 11, Robert Rancher. A score of 8.

[Everyone around the room clapped for Robert's score, making him smile slightly at the praise.]

Caesar: District 11, Sarah Sower. A score of 5.

Some people frown at the score, "What happens if you get a lower score?" Bruce questioned.

"It won't affect your overall game or anything; however, it may lead to less chance of getting sponsors," Blake responded. "It doesn't mean you can't win, though. Johanna got a score of 3 during her games. She went for the whole wolf in sheep's skin thing and tricked everyone. She was brutal."

[Viv pulls Sarah into a side hug and smiles at her while everyone else claps.]

Iris: Congratulations, you two!

Viv: Good job guys.

Sarah and Robert: Thanks.

Viv: Right, tomorrow is the tributes showcase, so just know tomorrow you'll be taken by the stylists to get ready in the morning, and then you'll have the interview. So, I probably won't see you before that. Remember my advice, and both of you are going to do great.

[All the mentors are gathered in a room, watching the interviews.]

[Vivienne is sat between Johanna and Finnick conversing.]

Viv: Tomorrow. How do you say goodbye?

[Both of her friends looked over at her with raised eyebrows.]

Finnick: You haven't grown attached, have you?

[Viv shook her head.]

Viv: No, no. I've done my best to separate myself from them, only spending the absolutely necessary time with them. It's just they're probably going to die. How do you send people off to their deaths without... I don't know.

Johanna: No matter what, they are going into that arena. Whether you are nice to them or not. Just wish them luck; try not to drag it out and get emotional. Chances are they won't be paying attention to you any way they'll be in their own heads.

Viv: You're right.

Finnick: Just do what feels right in the moment. Remember right after you'll be able to come with us. Watching the bloodbath is always the worst part, in my opinion.

Viv: Thank you guys. I wouldn't have been able to do it without you.

[Johanna lays an arm around Viv's shoulder and pulls her into a side hug.]

Johanna: That's what best friends are for.

Finnick: Yes, yes, best friends.

[Viv chuckles and shakes her head at her two best friends.]

[Eventually, the interviews end, and the tributes all reunite with their mentors and walk up to their hotel rooms.]

[The scene cuts to Viv lying in bed staring at the ceiling unblinking, no emotions shown. She was numb.]
