Finally Falling

Chapter 26

[Bus]

We just got a new mission about a woman with possible powers not recorded before on the Index. The woman, Hannah Hutchins, was a safety inspector at StatiCorp before an explosion happened at the particle acceleration lab. That's when her alleged powers started so we're heading to Batesville to conduct an index asset evaluation and intake.

I walk out with May, "Wheels up in five. Strap in" May says

I look down at Skye and Coulson, "It's a delicate situation, so you're bringing along warm and fuzzy?" Skye asks

I give her a look before Coulson walks away and Ward walks in, "Hey guys" He says

"You're late" May tells him

[Batesville]

We pull up to Hutchins house to see a bunch of citizens outside her house in a mob. We get out of the car before showing our badges, making our way to the front. May and I stand guard while Ward and Coulson talk to the woman. Then the crowd starts throwing things, "Get out of here!" Someone yells

"We don't want you here anymore!" Another yells

"Officers, get those people back" Ward tells them

"Murderer!" Someone yells

Then one of the police cars starts driving toward the crowd, "Move it!" I yell

"Move out of the way! Go!" May yells

Coulson tackles the one guys out of the way before the car drives through a pole. I see Skye get out of the car, "It's her! That freak just tried to kill us!" A woman yells

"Hey! Calm down" Skye tells her

Then the officer pulls his gun on Ms. Hutchins while Ward gets him to put it down. Then Coulson is trying to calm Ms. Hutchins down before May uses the night night gun on her, "Time to go" May says

"So much for the welcome wagon" Coulson says

[Command Center]

Ward, Coulson, and I are standing in the command center watching the Cage on the screen, "Just a mattress, sir? It's a six hour long ride to the Fridge" Ward tells him

"Fitz added magnetic shielding to the cage after Simmons had her scare. If Ms. Hutchins had this power, then that room should keep it from getting out. But in there, she'll be just as dangerous" Coulson says

May walks in, "How is she?" She asks

"The dendrotoxin's wearing off. She'll be awake soon, scared, in a strange room. Our next interaction with her is crucial to gaining her trust. Which is why I want you there" He says looking at May

"Are you sure that's a good idea?" She asks

"If Ms. Hutchins is going to believe anything we say, she needs to know we're not hiding things from her. Which means you explaining the situation" Coulson says

"What if that doesn't calm her down? What if that makes her more agitated?" I ask

"Then he definitely wants me in there" May says

"Pretty much" Coulson says

"We'll observe from out here" Ward says

"And I'll lose the tie. If she is telekinetic, I don't want to have a noose around my neck" Coulson says

Ward and I watch as they walk into the Cage before Hutchins sits up, startled, "Brought you some water" Coulson places it next to her, "It's okay. I'm Phil. This is Melinda May" Coulson says
