Skye and I walk into the command center of the Hub to find Coulson, "I made a list of SHIELD bases we believe are secure" Skye tells him
"How many so far? Seven?" Coulson asks
"Three" Skye says
"Plus the Hub?" He asks
"Including the Hub" I say
"It's a preliminary list. I'm sure more will turn up" Skye says
"Members of Congress are calling for an investigative panel. But it is still unclear who should be held accountable. Many of its leaders have vanished, leaving SHIELD..." The news reporter says
"You were right all along. Having all this out there in the world makes it too dangerous, and now there's no one left to protect it" Skye says
"There's us. We were lucky enough to make it through. The Triskelion, the Hub? Those battles are just the beginning of this war. Hydra's out there now, but at least our team's still intact. We can fight them and we will" Coulson tells us
[Later On]
Coulson walks back in, "Good news. The Cube has been retaken. All Hydra agents have been flushed out and are on the run" Skye tells him
"So that makes four" Coulson says
"See? I told you more would turn up" Skye says
May walks in, "The hull's almost completely repaired. Flight systems are back online" May says
"And the cargo ramp?" Coulson asks
"Fitz assures me that it will be operational" May says
"Sir, incoming transmission" An agent says
A military guy pops up, "This is Colonel Glenn Talbot, US Air Force. I need to speak with whoever's in charge over there" He says
"Colonel Talbot, I'm Agent Phil Coulson. I'm happy we could—" Talbot cuts him off, "Mr. Coulson. It's a real mess your boys have gotten us into"
"Hydra caught us by surprise" Coulson says
"Well, that's an understatement. It's troubling how deeply embedded Hydra was within your ranks" Talbot says
"Especially troubling for us, sir. But I assure you, were going on the offensive. The Hub is secure. All remaining agents stand ready to assist you in whatever—" Talbot cuts him off again, "I think we've had about all the assistance we can handle from SHIELD. I'm sending in a peacekeeping force. They're gonna take control"
"Understood. What should I tell my men to expect?" Coulson asks
"We just wanna ask a few questions. Get the lay of the land. Everything checks out, you and your boys can be on your merry" Talbot says
"Sounds good" Coulson says and the transmission ends
Coulson turns towards us, "This doesn't sound good" He says
We start walking, "He's lying definitely, for sure" Skye says
"Oh most definitely" I say
"If Talbot's leading the op, there's nothing peacekeeping about it" Coulson says
"Base defenses are operational. We could hold out" May says
"The last thing SHIELD needs is to start a war with the US Government" Coulson says
"What happens when Talbot gets here?" Skye asks
"Best case scenario, we all get subpoenas, spend the next six months tied up in court hearings" Coulson says
"Worst case scenario?" Skye asks
"Is they skip the subpoenas, move straight to bunker busters" He says
"Bombs. Big bombs" Skye says
"All the while Hydra's still out there" May says
"Get on the comms. We're enacting Odyssey Protocol" Coulson says
"Odyssey Protocol? What does that mean?" Skye asks
"It means Fitz needs to finish his repairs. We're getting the hell out of here" Coulson says
[Bus]
After everything is fixed, we are up in the air, not knowing where the hell we are going. I am with Skye in the command center, it's a bit award since we haven't had a chance to talk about our feelings or our kiss with everything going on but now is not the time. Coulson walks in, "Skye, please, tell me something good" He says
"We have internet" She says
"Yay. And, boy, have I lowered my expectations" He says
"But all HQ support systems are gone" She says
"Well, then, the internet it is. Find everything you can on our team, all personal records, photos, anything that proves we exist, and erase it" He says
"Wait, what?" I ask
"Uh...that's kind of the nuclear option" Skye says
"It's our only option. Every government agency in the world will be on your ass. We need to vanish" He says
"Okay, but once that's done, that can't be undone. We'll be ghosts. Not Agents of SHIELD, just agents of nothing" He looks at her before he starts walking away, "What about Ward? Have you heard from him? He and Agent Hand should've dropped Garrett off at the Fridge by now" Skye says
"Not yet. Here, give him a call" He hands her the phone, "Hearing how Garrett settled into his tiny, windowless, permanent home might actually cheer me up. When you're finished, collect everyone's badges. It's no longer something we wanna flash around" He tells her before walking away
After her call with Ward and wiping us from existence, Skye comes to find me, "Hey, I need your badge" She says
I nod my head before I grab it, looking down, "Guess we're officially ghosts, now, huh?" I ask
She nods her head before I stand up and walk towards her, "You know, when I got mine, I finally felt like I was a part of something, but now...it's worthless" She says as I hand mine to her
I place my hand on her arm, "You're still a part of something, it's just changed" We look into each other's eyes, "I know we advent really gotten a chance to—" She cuts me off, "I know, and we will" She says
[Command Center]
Simmons, Fitz, May, Trip, and I are huddled in the command center, "So, Director Fury's alive?" Simmons asks as Coulson and Skye walk in
"What did he say? Does he have a plan?" Fitz asks
"He only sent coordinates" Coulson says
"The coordinates should put us somewhere in the Canadian wilderness" Skye says as she puts it on the screen
"What exactly are we looking for here, sir?" Fitz asks
"It's unclear. Maybe a rally point of some kind" Coulson says
"Sir, have you and Agent Fury used this form of communication before?" Simmons asks
"Never" He says
"Then how can you be sure—" Simmons says
"Cause this is how he operates" Coulson says
"Could be a trap. So far, everything has been a trap. Am I wrong? Hydra could've sent you those coordinates" Trip says
Coulson pulls out his badge, "Nick Fury gave me this badge. When he did, I swore an oath. We all did. To serve when everything else fails. To be humanity's last line of defense. To be the shield. These coordinates mean something. I'm certain of it. Fury also gave me this plane. Anyone wants off? Chutes are in the bay. Help yourself" Coulson says before he walks away
