NO ONE'S POV
The sun shined the campus in a warm, golden glow as Hanni went around to find Minji. She had been searching for her for nearly an hour, and just when she was about to give up, she spotted Minji, seated peacefully on the grass, leaning against a tree. The sunlight danced through the leaves, creating a dappled pattern on the ground.
Minji was engrossed in her book, her usual black cap with the initials 'MJ' shading her face. Her legs were crossed, and she appeared to be savoring the gentle afternoon breeze, resting for a short period before her next class comes. It was actally a pleasant scene that made Hanni smile.
Taking a deep breath, Hanni approached Minji with determination. "Hi!" She greeted her with a bright smile, but to her disappointment,
Minji didn't respond. Instead, she lowered her head even further into her book, determined to keep her distance.
Unfazed, Hanni sat down beside Minji and introduced herself, her voice warm and friendly. "Hi, I'm Hanni. I'm the girl who accidentally spilled hot coffee on you in the cafeteria." She said
Minji continued to give her the cold shoulder, not acknowledging her presence. Hanni's initial optimism diminished as she realized how challenging this encounter would be.
Summoning her courage, Hanni called out Minji's name and confessed, "I've been thinking about you ever since that cafeteria incident." She said then frowned slightly, her eyes filled with concern, though Minji still avoided her gaze.
Worried that Minji might have been injured by the scalding coffee, Hanni asked gently, "Are you okay, Minji?" She said hoping the later would reply to her because she's already feeling embarrassed.
After a moment of silence, Minji finally took a deep breath and replied, "I'm okay."
Relief washed over Hanni at Minji's response. Determination returned to her eyes as she leaned in and said, "I really want to make amends for what happened. How about we grab some coffee together? My next class isn't for a few hours." She said happily
Minji, still maintaining her cold demeanor, said, "There's no need to make amends. I'm fine."
Hanni's brows furrowed with frustration at Minji's refusal. She knew she had to try a different approach. With a gentle but determined touch, she reached out and held Minji's arm, making her to stand up.
"I insist, Minji," Hanni said, her voice soft but not easily discouraged. She points excitedly toward a nearby café. "Let's go at the café. It'll be fun!" She began to walk, pulling Minji gently along with her.
Minji, confused by this sudden turn of events, found herself unable to resist Hanni's charm and determination. She allowed herself to be led by the popular and beautiful woman, a nobody like herself wondering why Hanni, of all people, had chosen to approach her this day.
As they headed toward the café, Hanni's heart swelled with hope. She had taken the first steps in breaking down Minji's walls.
Hanni couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and uncertainty as she continued to lead Minji toward the nearby café. The sun now hung low in the sky, casting a warm and inviting glow over the campus grounds, making it an ideal afternoon for coffee and conversation.
As they approached the café, Hanni turned to Minji with an earnest smile. "I promise, Minji, this coffee is on me. Let's just sit down, chat a bit, and let's get to know each other." She held the door open for Minji, gesturing for her to enter first.
Minji hesitated for a moment, her cold demeanor still intact, but something about Hanni's persistence seemed to soften her resistance. She had never let anyone do this to her.
Minji gave a small nod and walked inside. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere.
Hanni led Minji to a corner table by the window, where the soft sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow on the wooden tabletop. They both took their seats, and Hanni signaled for a barista to take their orders.
"I'll have a cappuccino, please," Hanni said, smiling at Minji. "What about you, Minji?" She asked
Minji's eyes briefly met Hanni's, and she replied, "Just a plain black coffee, please and no sugar."
Hanni nodded and turned her attention back to Minji "you know," she began, her tone sincere, "I couldn't stop thinking about that day in the cafeteria. I was so worried that I had hurt you with that hot coffee." She said as she tries to hold Minji's hand but before she did that Minji noticed it and quickly move her hands away.
Minji looked down at her hands, she's holding her book. She thought that she should be reading rather than spending time with Hanni, "It was just a minor burn, Hanni. Accidents happen." She said then she sighs
Hanni nodded, relieved that Minji was opening up, even if just a little. "I'm glad to hear that you're okay. And I'm really sorry about what happened. I didn't mean for it to happen, and I wanted to make it up to you."
Minji's gaze met Hanni's again, and this time, there was a hint of curiosity in her eyes. "Why do you want to make it up to me? We barely know each other."
Hanni leaned forward, her eyes widened as she saw Minji's beautiful eyes. It was her first time looking at Minji this close because Minji usually looks down.
"Hanni.." Minji called her name and it made Hanni come back to reality
"Oh. B-because I believe in kindness and making amends when we can. Plus, I've seen you around, Minji, and I've heard you're an amazing person. I'd love to get to know you better."
"Amazing person?" Minji said then scoffed. "All I do in the university is study and be alone. I think you heard wrong." She added then smirked
"You're smart though.." Hanni said smiling.
"What is it really do you want from me, Hanni?" Minji once again asked but this time with her coldest voice that Hanni heard. Hanni felt shivers as she realized that Minji is serious. "I must admit, you're quite persistent, Hanni. For sure, there's something you want from me."
Hanni Suddenly got nervous. She almost forgot that Minji was a brainiac. She must've felt something strange when a popular girl suddenly approached her and brung her to a café for a conversation. 'she's too smart to easily believe me', Hanni thought
Minji's drink got served first so she took a sip of it.
Hanni faked a chuckle. "Guilty as charged. But sometimes, it's worth it to make a new friend, don't you think?" She said there was some kind of tension growing between them.
Minji took a sip of her black coffee and then nodded. "Yeah, maybe it is but befriending someone like me usually isn't your forte, isn't it?" Minji said smirking. Hanni smirked back.
'Minji for sure wasn't taking this easily' Hanni thought
"Well.. I'll be honest with you, Minji. Aside from feeling guilty for what I did at the cafeteria, I was hoping if you could tutor me for my upcoming accounting qualifications exam. There was this exam where it shows if I'm still qualified to continue my course or not. I wanted your help." Hanni said. It's true that they'll be having a qualifications exam after few weeks. She needed to review anyways so why not ask for Minji's help even though she knows she can easily pass it. 'just for the sake of the dare. Come on! Agree, Minji' she thought
Even before Minji was about to reply, Hanni's coffee arrived. As soon as Hanni got her drink. She drank because Minji is kind of making her nervous.
"What do you think, Minji? Will you help me?" Hanni softly asked as she reached for Minji's hand caressing it making the other latter gulp with the sudden contact.
