31 - Trying

**3.5 MONTHS LATER**

I was sitting in the living room with Suzanne and some ladies that we came to know were over as well throwing me a small baby shower. I was opening gifts when there was a knock on the door.

"Are you expecting anyone else?" I asked and Suzanne shook her head.

"No." Suzanne walked to the door and there was a delivery man standing there.

"I have a delivery for a Mavis Greer." He said and I got up as only an 8 and a half month along pregnant woman could and walked to the door to see him holding a vase of peonies and lilacs. I smiled knowing exactly who they were from. He then also handed Suzanne a hug teddy bear and I shook my head.

"$20 says there's a nanny cam in it..." I said and she laughed.

"No way because I think you're right." Suzanne said and I smiled. I signed for the delivery and tipped the guy. I placed the flowers on the coffee table and smiled as I pulled out the card.

I smiled reading the card. He was right he was trying but trying wasn't enough. He didn't want me or the baby. He was just doing this to let me know he hadn't forgotten about me.

I still loved Lloyd and if he had shown up today and asked me to marry him, I would have. I wanted to be with him so bad, but I couldn't be with a man who didn't want the child he helped create.

The rest of the baby shower went off without a hitch and everyone had left. I was sitting looking at the flowers.

"Have you seen him recently?" Suzanne asked coming up to me and I shook my head.

"I saw him like 2 months ago. I found somethings of his in Denny's old stuff that I took to him." I said and Suzanne sighed.

"Do you want to go see him? See Assassin...?" Suzanne asked. One thing I hated about leaving was leaving assassin behind. It was the better choice at the time.

"You want to drive me, don't you?" I asked and she nodded as we got ready, headed to the car and drove the short distance to Lloyd's place. Once we got inside and I started walking up the front steps and I stopped clutching the stone railing.

"Mavis?" Suzanne asked and I groaned.

"Sorry I had a cramp..." I said as I kept moving. We got to the door and Lloyd was opening it.

"Mavis?! What the hell?!" Lloyd asked in shock, and I sighed feeling the worst for just stopping by.

"I wanted to thank you for the flowers and bear..." I said and Lloyd smiled as we walked into the house.

"Oh, you didn't have to stop by just to thank me." Lloyd said not taking his eyes off my stomach.

"Well, I also have to admit I have a selfish reason for being here. I wanted to see Assassin." I said and Lloyd chuckled.

"Assassin!" Lloyd called out. He came running in and I smiled seeing how big he had gotten. Lloyd picked him up and handed him to me.

"Hey buddy! Oh, you're so big!" I said and kissed him and then held him in my arms as he started purring.

"You look good, you feel, okay?" Lloyd asked showing me into the room to sit down.

"Yeah, I feel okay. I mean I'm 8 and a half months pregnant. So, I'm as good as I can be." I said and Lloyd nodded. I could tell he was uncomfortable being here with me. I put Assassin down and then looked at Suzanne.

"I think we should go." I said and she sighed but helped me up from the chair I had sat in.

"You just got here..." Lloyd said, and I just sighed.

"I know but things are a little tense, I can feel it Lloyd. I know you can too." I said and he sighed. He started to walk Suzanne and I to the door. As I was walking to the door, Suzanne still had ahold of my hand, and I stopped grabbing my stomach again.

"Mavis?" Lloyd asked taking my other hand and I squeezed.

"Another cramp." I said and Suzanne sighed.

"Sweetie, I don't think they are cramps. I think you are having contractions." Suzanne said and I shook my head.

"I can't be, I'm early." I said and she shook her head.

"Remember the last visit, doc said baby could come at any day. It was in position and ready." Suzanne said and I groaned.

"Well, I guess we need to get to the hospital." I said and but didn't move as the contraction wasn't subsiding.

"Do you have time?" Lloyd asked and Suzanne shrugged.

"I don't know, these seem to be coming fast." Suzanne said and I groaned.

Lloyd looked at one of the guards.

"Call her doctor and get him here! Get all the info from Suzanne." Lloyd said and then he looked at me.

"Let's get you upstairs..." Lloyd said, and I chuckled.

"You think I can do stairs?" I asked and he smirked at me. He then bent down and lifted me like carrying a bride across the threshold and I looked at him since he made it look effortless as he rushed me upstairs to my old bedroom.

"What do you need Mavis?" Lloyd asked.

"I don't know...everything was in my go bag at the house." I panicked. Lloyd placed a hand on my cheek.

"Hey, everything will be fine." Lloyd said and I sighed.

"I have the bag! I left it in the car. Let's get you changed." Suzanne said but Lloyd didn't go to leave.

"Lloyd..." I said and he sighed and walked to the hallway.

He started pacing just knowing what was about to happen and he wasn't sure how it was going to go. He planned to see the kid a few days later and never being present for the delivery. Now here was Mavis, in his place having their kid...his kid...his own flesh and blood. Could this be something that made him change his ways? He was unsure.
