The next day
I was so excited to to see Benny. I missed him a lot since I left America. My parents sent him to go on a plane where they had to put the animals in cages. I hope he wasn't too scared being alone with other animals in a cage. He had to be in there for 6-7 hours because that was how far New York was to England. Vic is picking me up in her car to go to the airport. Heathrow airport is about 30-40 minutes in car depending on if there is traffic or not. Vic said the drive was going to be like a "mini road-trip." I guess it was another way we could get to know each other.
Vic picked me up in her white car and we were on our way to the airport.
"Hello Tay Tay!" Vic said. I looked at her with a disgusted face.
"Don't ever call me that again," I said as she laughed.
"I knew you would hate it," she said as she started to drive.
"Well yeah. That's a horrible nickname."
"Yeah it is," she admitted. She was looking at the road and not at me so I was able to look at her and admire how pretty she was.
"You know I can feel you staring at me," she said.
"What? No im not," I said lying and then looking away from her.
"If you say so."
"Just drive please," I said in a nice way. She continued to drive and then she said she was going to stop at a gas station because she needed to charge her car for a bit."Ok, we're here," said as she got out the car going to charge it.
"Why didn't you charge your car earlier?" I asked her.
"Well I actually don't know. I should've charged it this morning," she said.
"It's fine. Ima just go to that store to kill time."
"Yeah you go ahead. I'll just wait here to see whenever it's fully charged."
I walked off to a cute little shop that had a lot of vintage items. Even jerseys. I was looking around and found a cafe hidden in the back with books and furniture. Coffee did sound good so I got my usual order and then I thought about Vic. I knew she would want something to drink so I got her a matcha. I looked around the store a bit more waiting for our drinks until I got them. Then I went outside to where Vic's car was parked. As I was walking towards the car I saw her leaning on it with her arms and legs crossed. She looked funny but cute at the same time. I was just smiling at her."What are you doing? Were you waiting for me?" I said laughing at how she was posed.
"Just enjoying the view," she said.
"Do I look cool?" she asked me. I laughed at her question and took a quick picture so she could see for herself.
"See for yourself," I said showing her the picture. She looked at it and nodded her head.
"Yeah, I look cool," she said like she was proud of herself.
I laughed saying, "if you say so."
"Is that for me?"
"Yes," I said giving her, her matcha latte. She took a sip from the cup.
"Ooo matcha. Thanks."
"No problem. Enjoy drinking grass," I said while drinking my delicious coffee.
"Hey! It's really good grass!" She said as a joke. We both laughed and saw that the car was fully charged so we started to drive again. We were on the road listening to music and also talking about Benny and how excited I was to see him. I told Vic some stories of Benny and she enjoyed hearing them. I could tell how much she likes dogs. I have no doubt Benny isn't going to like her. They'll love each other.
It seemed like Vic was always the one hearing what I had to say and always asked me questions so I decided to ask her some things that came up in my head.
"How was it moving from the Netherlands to England?"
"Different. I had to get used to speaking more English of course but the good thing was that I already knew some. I also had to figure out where I was going a lot of the times. I wasn't use to the people and how they act here and the slang they use but being with Viv and Beth made it easier," she said as her eyes were facing forward.
"You must be glad you had them around. You know like people you knew so you didn't have to be alone," I said looking at the side of her face.
"Yeah, I was lucky to have Viv living in London. I know you don't really have anyone here who could help you, at least during your first 4 weeks. That must have sucked," she said in a sorry tone.
"I mean it was a bit lonely but I figured my way to the places I needed to go and how to transport. I am glad I ran into you the time that I did. It was getting kind of boring not having anyone around," I said admitting I'm thankful I met Vic. She was smiling but still facing the road.
"I'm glad I met you too," she said.
"Is there anything specific you miss about the Netherlands?" I asked wanting to ask more questions.
"Yeah. The flowers."
I was confused on why she said flowers out of anything else she could've said.
"What do you mean? Isn't there flowers in London?"
"Yes but the Netherlands have a specific flower that is all around the whole country. They're pretty much known for that flower and have so many beautiful places and varieties of them."
"Okay. And what is this flower called?" I asked.
"Tulips. I'm sure you've seen and heard of them but to the Netherlands they're important and symbolize deep love," she said.
"That's awesome. I didn't flowers could mean so much to a whole country. I would like to see the ones you're talking about one day," I said imaging the beautiful flowers.
"I would love to take you to see them. You would love it and you could also meet my family and where I grew up."
"Sure. That would be nice."
I guess we were close enough friends for her to want me to visit her home. I would like to show her around New York too. It wouldn't be as nice as she made Netherlands sound but it would still be fun. There were some parts of New York that made it special. We eventually made it to the airport and I was about to see my son. At least that's what I thought of him. I know when I see him I could cry but I didn't want Vic to notice that so I stayed strong. I was emotional when it came to Benny. He is everything to me. We were waiting for the dogs names to be called out so we knew he was ready to be picked up. Me and Vic heard them call out his name and I was excited I jogged to see him. He was in a cage ready to get out and I called out his name. He heard me and started wagging his tail fast and barking because he was so happy to see me. I'm glad he noticed me.
"Benny!" I said opening the cage and pulling him in my arms. He was going crazy in my arms because of how excited he was. I continued to hug him as he kept licking my face. I held in my tears so Vic didn't have to see me act like a baby. Vic was looking at us and she was smiling big. She pet Benny and said hi to him. I introduced them to each other and right away Benny licked her. I knew he would like her.Authors note
