But

Stiles distracts herself by sipping down half a cup of coffee and countering that half high by guzzling down half a cold beer right afterwards. When she hears the shower stop running, Stiles then proceeds to try to keep herself calm and collected.

Mostly, because she wants real answers.

But also, because the man is even more distracting than the wolf was...

(And she’s not wrong...)

Stiles sucks down an audible gasp as he suddenly begins padding silently down her staircase.

She really didn’t think this through, because she forgot to give him a shirt to go with her mother’s Betty Boop maternity pants (that actually look so hilariously adorable on him, and thank fuck he’s tied a knot in those drawstrings, but goddamn, they still hang so long on those sharp hips of his...)

And of course, none of the following help her distracted cause either; his hair is still damp and sticking up in odd angles with the damp towel hanging loosely over one shoulder, his green eyes are light and twinkle slightly with that annoyingly cute little smile tugging at his lips...

And to top all of that off, his body looks like it was sculpted by fricking angels or ancient Greek sculptors...or something.

Stiles tears her eyes away the second they begin to drift back down.

Derek fights a smile at the sound of her heart beginning to race, the closer he moves to her. He stops just a foot away from her, now fighting the twitch of his nose and the flutter of his eyes at the comforting scent of hers that surrounds him. He smiles at her slightly bewildered expression before he says, “I cleaned up your bathroom afterwards. Blood’s all gone.”

Stiles blinks, then, chuckles faintly. “I... Thank you.” Her heart leaps when his smile widens. “Oh! Beer!”

Derek jumps very slightly at her little outburst. Though, he’s smiling fondly to himself as he watches her move to the fridge to grab him a nice cold bottle. “Thank you.” He mumbles, blushes faintly when she giggles and rolls her eyes.

Stiles watches him then pull the cap off of the bottle and finds herself scoffing in annoyance before she can stop herself.

Derek gulps half the contents down. He then looks up to find her looking rather impressed.

He fights with the stupid urge to puff his chest out to her, even when he sees her eyes flickering back down every so often.

(How is he going to survive if she keeps looking at him like that?)

Stiles fights another roll of her eyes, a small smile hanging from her lips as she asks, “Can Scott do that, too?”

(She knows kitsunes are strong. She’s just not sure how strong, because they’re all different depending on how many tails they have.)

(And considering that Scott is a humble little foxy who doesn’t like to show off unless he has to...well, Stiles still doesn’t know how many tails Scott has.)

Derek shrugs, fighting back his own smirk as he replies, “Probably.”

Stiles scoffs again, this time, looks deeply irritated. “That little asswipe watches me struggle every damn time. Oh, he is SO getting a bitch slap the next time I see him.”

As she grumbles her words, Derek can’t help smiling, utterly adoringly.

In the next few moments, Stiles stares back at him, almost losing herself in that handsome face.

That is, until reality comes crashing back down on her...

Derek frowns as Stiles scowls and backs slowly away from him. His heart almost sinks, until he sees she’s just hopping up to sit on the kitchen island. He lets out a silent breath of relief, even lets his eyes shut to calm himself, for a very brief moment.

When he opens his eyes again, Stiles is still scowling. Though, now that he’s paying closer attention, she looks more thoughtful than anything else. He simply waits to let her speak first.

(And hopes with everything he is that she won’t just tell him to leave by the end of whatever she wants to say...)

“It’s funny–I usually can’t stop talking; usually know what to say, but... On the drive back here, I had all of these angry rants that I wanted to spout at you, but the more I thought about the last three days you’ve spent with me, the more I realise that you’re hiding from your pack, not just from the creepy old dude...”

Stiles nods at the wide eyed look of fear and shame on his face.

(The same one he gave her back in the forest.)

(It goddamn breaks her heart.)

“And you’re hiding, because of...” Stiles gulps quietly, “Because of whatever you did to the creepy old dude’s daughter...right?”

Derek’s face softens–because his girl really is so very smart (too smart for him.)

Derek nods slowly, and because he can’t bare keeping it from her, he simply blurts out, “I killed her. I stayed with her to keep everybody safe, but she was completely insane. She was gonna murder my entire pack; my family. So, the first chance I got, I finally broke outta my cage and I tore her heart right outta her evil chest before I ran. And that’s when I found you.”

“Wha–I... Wait...” Stiles throws her hands up. Cage???

“I’m gonna leave out the gory details for your own sake–“ Derek begins with a small and soft smile and Stiles instantly cuts him off with a flabbergasted, “You will not do that!!”

Derek’s eyes widen with shock before crinkling with amusement, just as Stiles’ eyes widen in horror and she quickly and softly adds, “I mean...i-if that’s OK with you... You don’t have to if–“

“It’s fine, Stiles. I wanna tell you.” Derek can’t help smiling around this woman. He even throws in a little humour to put her at ease; “I may have trauma, but it’s an angry trauma.”

Stiles blinks, looks mostly concerned now. “Yeah, trauma is trauma...”

Derek catches the haunted look that flickers passed those typically bright whiskey orbs. He frowns, finds himself automatically moving over to stand in front of her. He’s so close that if he were to just lift his hands, he could rest them over those cute knobbly knees poking out of her ripped dungarees.

“I’ll tell you anything you wanna know.” Derek finally says, voice barely above a whisper as he loses himself by just staring at her perfect face all over again.

“But...” The fact that he just told her that, and then, immediately after, hesitation is clearly written all over his face, should make Stiles question his authenticity–“But what...?”

Stiles mumbles quietly back, her heart racing as he moves a fraction closer, slowly pulls the towel from his shoulder and places it beside her on the kitchen island before leaning slowly into her.

Stiles tightens her jaw only to keep a sharp gasp from escaping her as he leans his face just inches from hers.

Derek’s lips quirk upwards very slightly.

(His aim isn’t to tease he just because he feels a sense of smug pride over the way her body so wonderfully reacts to his.)

And then, Stiles thinks she might just be daydreaming when he leans in so close that their noses are touching and he whispers, “But I’d really like to kiss you first...”
