“Ceramic?”
Stiles knows she doesn’t look impressed. Though, that’s only because she’s literally being outsmarted by a seven year old. Which is actually why she secretly is impressed.
“Yes.” Leah arches a bushy little black eyebrow. She holds onto a smug smirk as she mirrors the woman’s expression. “Did I win? It feels like I won.”
Stiles’ eyes narrow a little. But finally, she finds herself blowing out a sigh of defeat as she leans back into the couch. “OK. Technically, when you play I Spy With My Little Eye, you’re supposed to use nouns, not adjectives...” She chuckles to herself in amazement as she adds, “And I can’t believe a seven year old even knows what I’m talking about here.”
Leah grins brightly, proudly even, as she puffs out her little chest. “Alpha says you’re really smart, too.”
“Oh.” Stiles flushes a little bit, slightly caught off guard. “Uh, yeah, I guess I am.”
Leah rolls her eyes at the woman’s (stupid) modesty.
(She firmly believes in flaunting your intelligence, just to show others how they should be thinking.)
“Are you Derek’s mate?” Leah asks, blunt, but curious.
Stiles’ flushes even more. “Um... Ye–I don’t know...” She finally gives up with a shrug and helpless little huff. “I guess so...?”
Leah tilts her head, now looking more confused. “What’s wrong?”
Stiles gulps–she forgets this little girl is still a werewolf that’s already highly in tune with her surroundings.
“I feel weird asking the cub of the family. No offence.”
Leah grins knowingly at her sheepish smile. “You’re wondering if Paige was Derek’s mate before you were.”
Her grin widens to mischievous new heights when Stiles’ eyes widen with embarrassment and her cheeks grow even hotter as they pool with even more blood.
Leah shrugs casually–to Stiles, looks very much like Derek as the girl sends her a wolfish grin.
“She wasn’t. Wolves mate for life, Stiles–meaning; they only do it once. So, I don’t know why you’re worried.” Leah shrugs again, slips down against the couch to get more comfortable as she flicks over the channel.
Stiles takes a small breath to calm her nerves before saying, “But...she died...so... I mean, if there’s anything that breaks a bond like that–“
“Derek, tell Stiles that Paige wasn’t your mate. She doesn’t believe me.”
“Wha–“ Stiles’ eyes widen in horror at the sound of his softly amused laugh right above her.
She tilts her head back as Leah smirks to herself, continuing to watch her stupid cartoons as Stiles sputters and flushes even fricking harder.
Stiles rushes to stand and face him with a highly apologetic look. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to talk about your love life behind your back, but this little devil cub is apparently too smart for a so-called successful Stanford graduate...”
Stiles pauses and take a deep breath to calm herself, because–“You’re smiling. OK. That’s...good...??”
Her heart flutters when his smile widens and he laughs.
“I’m smiling, ‘cause you’re adorable.” Derek tells her as he gently takes her by the hand.
Though, he pauses to give the back of Leah’s head a soft swipe when she gags loudly.
Stiles fights a small smile as Derek scowls down at the cub and playfully warns her with; “We’re gonna be in the kitchen. So, no funny business, because I’ll be able to hear it.”
Leah doesn’t even bother to look away from her cartoons as she snootily tells him, “I was just about to say that last part to you and Stiles.”
“Alright.” Derek hisses before giving the back of her head another swipe.
Stiles chuckles as Leah giggles and slaps Derek’s hand away from her.
“I’m sorry–“ Stiles tells him, ”–but you walked right into that.”
She purses her lips to keep from smirking when he only shoots her a playful glare.
“Thank you, Stiles.” Leah chirps, “I like this one, Derek.”
“Yeah, me, too.” Derek chirps back without a pause.
Stiles’ next chuckle dies on her lips as she turns to find Derek smiling at her like she’s the fricking Sun, or something.

“How are you so sure that she’s bluffing?”
Allison doesn’t like to question her grandfather. But he always encourages her to do so.
Why, she doesn’t know, because she seems to be the only one he ever allows questions from.
And besides that, Allison knows she only questions him, sometimes, because she’s questioning herself, all the damn time...
Gerard turns to his granddaughter with a small smirk. “Because she’s got her entire pack protecting this girl. Why would she need protection if she’s so powerful?” He scoffs, sneers, “Please. It’s just a front to try to put me off.”
Allison stares at his knowing smirk slowly growing as the realisation then hits her.
She nods in understanding. “The girl is Derek’s weakness. That’s why you wanna capture her?” She scoffs then, is angry as she says, “He moved on quickly from Aunt Kate. You were right. He really is a monster. They all are.”
Gerard pulls back on his smirk of utter satisfaction–because things couldn’t be going more his way right now...
He nods, pulls on a sad smile as he tells her, “You have no idea, sweetheart. Now, if you wish to take revenge on them all, I will support you all the way, but personally, I just want to see Derek in the ground beside my daughter.”
Allison nods, a serious and determined look on her face. “I want to kill them all.”
Gerard fights back another smirk, instead, nods gravely and says, “My disappearance will put the pack on edge. Talia will keep the girl and Derek on lockdown until she thinks she’s dealt with me. So, for now, we wait the little lovebirds out.” He smirks humorously, “It won’t take long for them to want their privacy back.”
“And then, we take them? Draw Talia and the rest of the pack to us?”
Gerard smiles proudly down at his granddaughter, softly swiping her dark curls away from her face. “Precisely.” He nods, “Your mother once slayed an entire nest of vampires while she was in labour with you–you’d be surprised what a mother’s love is capable of.”
Allison looks wary at those words. “So, the plan is to make the most powerful Alpha on this side of the planet pissed off enough to come looking for our blood?” She arches a brow, her words blunt and unimpressed.
Gerard chuckles, gently ruffling the top of her head.
Allison frowns as she quickly smoothens her hair back down.
“It will make her reckless. She loves all of her children, but Derek seems to be her weak spot.” Gerard says with a smirk, “And I have enough firepower on me now to take down even a True Alpha, let alone an Evolved one.”
Allison still isn’t so sure, but for now, all she can focus on, is killing Derek for what he did to her aunt Kate.
