❝Lai, you're really pushing your luck tonight.❞

forget quadratic equations; Laia's equation is more like "Revenge = Fun + Chaos."

angel of small death & the codeine scene - hozier
Leash-less confusion I wander the concrete,
Wonder if better now having survived,
Jarring of judgment and reasons defeat,
The sweet heat of her breath in my mouth I'm alive.

OUTER BANKS.
LAIA'S POV
It's the first day of school, and the looming spectre of education hangs over our heads like a dark cloud. I hop on my bike, feeling the weight of my impending academic doom. The weather seems to match my gloomy mood, with gray clouds threatening to burst into a storm at any moment.
As I approach the high school, I spot the Pogues gathered by the entrance. JJ is taking a casual swig from a mysterious bottle, and Kie seems to be the voice of reason—or at least attempting to be.
"Hey, chill out." Kie advises JJ, who replies with a carefree nonchalance, "If I black out, just don't remind me."
"That's not funny." Kie scolds, her gaze suddenly falling onto me as I nonchalantly park my bike behind her car.
"Lai?" She questions, concern etched on her face.
"Morning." I greet them without a smile, my enthusiasm for the first day back at school clearly lacking.
Kiara tugs me into their huddle. "We honked at you, and you've already left."
"Yeah, just took my bike for a swing." I nod casually, as if a bike ride is the latest extreme sport.
