Missie slowly woke up to the sound of birds chirping. She had overslept, breakfast would be ready in just a few minutes. She rubbed her eyes and sighed. She was perfectly fine staying here all day in bed with Billy. However life was cruel and demanding.

She slowly started to get up when Billy stirred, quickly tightening his arm around her.

"It's just me Billy. It's time to get ready."

Billy sighed as she softly kissed him.

"I love you," she whispered.

She then made her way down to the dining room where Joe and Kathleen were already getting ready for breakfast. She heard Billy's boots as he came downstairs, his belt, hat, and shirt in his hands.

He set them down and came over and poured her a cup of coffee and then himself.

She looked up and smiled at him in thanks, the air already heavy from the shift of the confession that Hattie dropped last night.

"Mom, would you like some?" Joe asked, offering her some breakfast that Sofia just placed on the table.

"No thank you."

"Gracias, Sofia," Joe said.

"De nada," she responded, heading back to the kitchen.

Billy sat down, studying his mom. She looked like she hadn't slept all night.

Missie sipped her coffee softly talking to Joe when the door opened, making her jump. No one said anything as he took his hat off and groaned taking off his jacket.

Kathleen glanced at Billy who looked at her that gave confirmation that he was the reason for Antrims pain.

"We have to talk. The big property deal I was hoping to clinch fell through. We're in trouble. Seems I'm more in debt than I thought."

"But won't the bank..?" Kathleen started.

"The bank won't give me any more credit. I took out some loans. They want to redeem 'em."

Kathleen let out a shaky breath. "What are we supposed to do?"

"We have to get away from this place."

"And go where?!" Kathleen raised her voiced.

"I don't know!" Antrim shouted.

Billy quickly sat up warningly and Antrim glanced at him before he spoke again.

"Somewhere I can find a job."

"And exactly what kind of job can you do, Antrim?" Billy pushed.

Antrim glared at him, his grip tightening on the chair in front of him before he slammed it forward and left, slowly and painfully making his way up the stairs.

Billy angrily finished his cup of coffee and looked at his mother.

He quickly sat down next to her and took her hands. "You don't have to go with him."

"Yes I do."

"No you don't. You don't have to stay with him."

"Yes I do. He's my husband. And I married him under God."

Billy scoffed.

"And I have to stay with him."

"You don't!"

"I believe in the rites of the Catholic Church, Billy. Nothing'll change that. But... you don't have to come with us."

Missie sat there, clenching her hands at the thought of losing Kathleen, Joe, but especially Billy. Was he going to leave her that easily?

"Yeah, I do," Billy answered without hesitation.

Kathleen patted his hand that was on her arm before he got up, pushing his seat back in and started to walk off before he glanced back at Missie before he left.

She sat there, trying to hold herself together. So this was it?

She quickly stood up, running after him.

"Billy!" She shouted after him.

He stopped and turned.

"You're going to leave just like that?!"

"I have no choice!"

Missie stood there defeated.

"Come with us."

"You know Antrim won't have it."

"I don't care what he will and won't have. Come with us."

Missie stood there. "I don't want to leave here," she cried.

Billy walked up to her, cupping her face. "I know, I don't want to leave either, but what choice do we have?"

Missie shrugged in defeat.

"Hey, this doesn't change anything."

"Promise?" She asked, glancing up at him.

"I promise. You matter to me, and I'm not leaving you behind."
