Ezhil Sirju

"Babe?" I called for my boyfriend that was supposed to be home. Yet I couldn't find him in the living room or the kitchen. Confused, I walked up the stairs looking for familiar green eyes that made my heart skip a beat.

He sat on the edge of his bed staring at his phone. "Babe?" I called for him again as I sat beside him. Leaned a bit to see what he was staring at. My heart sinks once I notice it was a picture of me getting into Alvize car.

Samuel finally looks at me. Not a single trace of his gorgeous smile. He grabs my face while his other hand rests around my waist.

"Why?" His tone was cold yet didn't indicate anything else. He didn't seem angry or upset.

"He saw me waiting for the bus and offered to drop me off at home." I answered softly. Feeling like a kid getting caught doing something that they weren't supposed to do. However it was a simple car drive, Alvize offered and I accepted. It wasn't something he should get angry over, or was I in the wrong.

He now stands up as he rubs his face. Closed his eyes briefly while taking a deep breath. "You couldn't decline?"

"I would have been standing outside for another 20 minutes." I replied, hoping he won't misunderstand.

Silence took over our bedroom. I'm waiting for him to react while he was purposely not reacting. Instead taking deep breaths while facing the other way. Not sparing me another glance.

"It won't happen again." I assured him. Hoping he will flash me a smile and take me in his strong arms.

"It better not." He replied as he went down the stairs yet made sure to slam the bedroom door shut.

Startled I stared at my wooden door. Doubt and worry clouded my mind. I knew I should have declined. After all Alvize was the sole reason why Samuel lost his temper. Yet he was also the reason why I didn't wind up with more bruises covering my body.

He hadn't gone back on his own word. In fact he has treated me much better than he did in the past. Yet as I stared at my wooden door there was a fraction of doubt. I love him just as I did 5 years ago but I can't say the same about Samuel with certainty. My mind takes me back to the very first time he grabbed my wrist tightly, refusing to let go of me. Perhaps he has done his best to keep his word and I shouldn't anger or irritate him in any way or form.

I went down the stairs. Careful with each step I took closer to him, unsure what weave of emotions might hit me. Samuel sat on the couch with his eyes glued to the tv. His face is clear from any emotions. I took place beside him, felt the urge to scoot closer and rest my head on his shoulder. Yet I know from past experiences that he will flat out push me away.

This went on for days.

No eye contact, avoiding me all together. Hadn't said a word to me this entire week. Frustrated, I glance at my reflection in the mirror, trying my hardest not to get upset. My curled hair framed my face perfectly. For my friend's baby shower I decided to wear a pink dress that accentuated my curves.

I quickly headed down the stairs, hoping I'll see Samuel's gaze fixated on me once he sees me in my pretty dress. My heart sank once I didn't notice him inside the house. Instead he sat in his car, typing away on his phone.

With a frown on my face I entered the car. "You could have at least waited for me inside." I complained, trying to get his attention. His lips remained in a thin line. Eyes now on the road as he drove to our friend's house. I averted my gaze and stared out of the window instead. Tears threatened to roll down my cheeks but I quickly recovered.
