↜3rd Person Pov↝

"Gon, (Y/N), wanna race to see who finishes first?" asked Killua, a challenging grin resting on his face. "Sure. The loser has to buy dinner." said Gon, smiling as well. (Y/N) said: "I'm in."

"Ready... go!" the three said at the same time, all three picking up their pace, each wanting to win. The people they passed all stared at them, some even thinking they were hallucinating. Surely, three kids weren't still running without breaking a sweat, right? Right?

Having caught up with Gon's friends, he said: "See you at the goal, Kurapika." Killua said: "Catch you later, old timer." (Y/N) snickered, as Leorio yelled: "I'm not old! I'm a teenager, just like you guys!" Hearing this, they all froze for a moment. "Eh?" "No way."

After continuing their race a little, Killua decided to speak up. "I'm impressed that you can keep up with me." "Really?" asked Gon, a bright smile on his face. (Y/N) said: "Maybe the others are just too slow. This is easy."

Killua sighed, noting: "Ah, the Hunter Exam is gonna be a breeze. That's no fun." "Hey, why do you want to become Hunters?" asked Gon, easily stepping up the seemingly endless staircase.

"Me? I'm not really interested in becoming a Hunter. I heard the Exam was supposed to be really hard, so I thought it'd be fun. But this is disappointing." answered Killua, looking over at (Y/N), who was running on his left side.

She answered: "I ran away from home. Just needed some new things to do, I guess.", shrugging her shoulders, carrying Leorio's briefcase with her. "What about you, Gon?" she quickly asked, not wanting them to start asking questions. It would be too much to explain, and she honestly couldn't be bothered.

Besides, she started to enjoy their company. And she knew that if she were being honest and told them where she came from and what she used to do, then they would hate her. Or worse, be scared of her. As people always were.

Gon answered with a smile on his face. "Well, my dad's a Hunter. So I want to become a Hunter, like my dad." Killua asked: "Hm. What kind of Hunter is he?" "I don't know." answered Gon honestly, watching as (Y/N) had to jump over a man that had fallen onto the stairs before her.

Killua laughed at his answer, saying: "That's kinda weird." "Really?" "You want to be like your dad, but you don't know anything about him?" "I was raised by Mito-san, so I've only seen my dad in pictures." answered Gon, once again, 100% honestly.

"Mito-san?" repeated (Y/N), to which Gon smiled, saying: "She's my aunt." He then said: "When he was 12, my dad took the Hunter Exam. He passed and became a Hunter. Then, he left the island. I want to find out why he chose to be a Hunter over being with me."

(Y/N) tilted her head a little, trying to understand what Gon meant. For her, her father- her parents- meant nothing. They were merely the people that she had seen the most in her life. The ones that trained her and made her the way she is. The ones she ran away from.

"The exit!" called a man, panting, gaining their attention. The three kids looked up, seeing a light at the end of the staircase. Without saying anything, the trio began to race once more, each of them wanting to win.

Satotz stopped as soon as he reached the end of the stairs, turning around to look at how many had made it. He knew that only a few people would pass this test. They would usually underestimate the Exam.

"Goal!" He looked at the three kids, surprised that they were the first ones. "Yay! I win." celebrated Gon, his brown eyes shining in the warm sun.

"What are you talking about? I was faster." said Killua, to which (Y/N) said: "You're both wrong. I was first." "I was." said Gon, with Killua saying: "No, I was!" "It was me." "I was faster, so you have to buy dinner!" "Nope! I was faster. So you buy me dinner." "But I was faster."

Grabbing both of the boys by their shoulders, (Y/N) turned them to face the examiner, saying: "Let's ask him!" Killua glanced at her from the corner of his eyes, not having expected her to be as physically strong as she apparently was.

Not paying her any mind, Gon immediately asked: "Hey, who was faster?" Satotz looked at the children, answering: "I believe that you crossed the finish line simultaneously."

"Oh. Then I'll buy you dinner, (Y/N)." said Gon, smiling at her. She nodded, copying his expression as she said: "I'll buy dinner for you, Killua." "And you buy me dinner!" finished Gon, the two smiling at their new-found friends.

Killua sighed lightly, saying: "I don't get it." "It's fun. There's nothing to get about it." said (Y/N), eyeing his skateboard. While Gon went to talk to Satotz, she asked: "Can I try?"

His blue eyes moved down onto his skateboard, then met hers once more. He asked: "Have you ever tried before?" She shook her head, answering: "Nope. But it looks fun."

Looking around them, Killua said: "You can try once we're on a better ground." He didn't want her to fall and hurt herself. "For real?" she asked, her eyes practically shining in excitement. A small smile appeared on his lips as he nodded at her, saying: "Yeah."

They had to wait a little for everyone to arrive. "Hey, Kurapika!" called Gon out, sitting next to (Y/N) on the ground. Killua was on her other side. Kurapika asked: "Is this our final destination?"

"No, it isn't." answered Gon, to which Kurapika said: "I see. The fog is fading." "Really?" asked Gon, standing up. The fog slowly faded away, revealing their surroundings.

"The Numere Wetlands, also known as Swindlers Swamp. We must cross these wetlands to reach Phase Two of the exam." explained Satotz. "This place is home to many bizarre animals, many of them being cunning, insatiable creatures who deceive humans and prey upon them. Be very careful."

The examiner turned to face the applicants, saying: "If you let them fool you... you're dead." The seriousness in his voice caused most of the people present to stare. The Exam might be more dangerous than they had imagined.
