Whenever Vivi couldn't sleep at night as a child, her mother would stay by her bed. She'd keep her company. Tell her a story, hum a lullaby, make her honey milk with a pinch of cinnamon.
She'd always say 'Night is the mother of thoughts.' and Vivi never understood what it meant. How can the night be a mother? She'd think to herself and even giggle because she thought her mother was just being silly. She wasn't and Vivi understood it when her mother left the earth, left her alone to survive the nights.
At first she was angry at her. So angry for leaving. Her young heart couldn't understand such thing. No one would tell her why. She'd stare up at the starry night sky with tears rolling down her cheeks and she'd wonder 'What am I supposed to do now?'.
Until she realized the nights were the only time she could be with her mother. The only time she could be alone with the mother of thoughts. She could picture her right beside her bed, singing to her, talking to her, caressing her hair, laughing at her silly wittiness.
But when the break in happened, it ruined everything.
Vivi hasn't pictured her mother ever since. Is afraid it'll distract her from reality. Reality that is so scary, so unreliable.
So whenever she cannot fall asleep, she scrolls her phone, reads an old magazine, does anything that'll keep her away from her thoughts.
This is one of those nights, she sighs to herself as she stares up at the ceiling, her sheets hanging from the bed and almost touching the floor. Her feet are restless tonight, hence the abandoned covers. She knows she can't fall asleep if she just lies there, it's not going to work tonight. No matter how hard she tries.
As much as she hates leaving her bedroom at night, she decides to try. Only one thing on her mind that she's hoping will help her.
Pushing herself up from the bed, she grabs her cotton morning robe from the nearby armchair and pulls it on, wraps it around her torso tightly. With her phone in her hand, she leaves her bedroom, makes sure to switch on every light while she tiptoes through the hallways to enter the kitchen.
The light in there flickers on, resembling the CCTV monitor that's supposed to show the kitchen. Except the light Vivi turns on works, but the screen Jungkook is looking at doesn't.
"Come onn." Jungkook groans as he shuts the screen and turns it back on, hoping it'll fix the problem.
His body is heavy from exhaustion, his eyelids wanting to close even when he's standing. With a swift movement, he pushes his shower fresh hair away from his eyes as he checks the monitor more closely, wants to fix it before he goes to bed.
He was minutes away from doing so anyways but decided to check the monitors one last time. Even though the camera in Vivi's room is now closed, by her own doings, he wants to make sure there's no movement whatsoever in the mansion or around it.
