sometimes i wish i met you sooner,
but i met you at just the right time,
we found each other when we needed

Dreaming is an odd concept.

You pretend to be asleep to fall asleep. Hours pass by like it's nothing. And then you wake up. But as you do, for a second you remember events that never happened to you, events that happened when you were asleep.

Vivianne's eyelids flutter open, reveal darkness everywhere. Moonlight the only thing she recognizes while her eyes adjust to the lighting.

Usually she doesn't remember her dreams, they slip away from the depths of her mind as soon as she wakes up. Though this time she remembers. And for that short moment, she's scared. Reaches to her left with eyes tightly closed, prays she doesn't feel an empty spot. Because what an awful trick would it be if this was all just a dream.

Her hand touches the back of her husband, shivers travelling through her body in an instant. She pushes herself up to sit, to look at him for a short moment while she pinches herself. Something she does a lot these days because the happiness and gratitude in her life sometimes feel a bit too good to be true. She pinches and it hurts. Hurts. So wonderfully. Because it's not a dream. This is real life. Her life.

Grabbing her white cotton robe from the nearby armchair, she puts it on and quietly makes her way out of the bedroom, closes the door after. On her tiptoes she makes sure to not wake up the whole house as she goes to peep into the room right next to theirs. Thick and long raven hair laid on a pillow is the only thing she sees across the room, her daughter tightly under the sheets, back facing the rest of the room. The way she's motionless, only quiet puffs heard, Vivi's certain she's asleep. And real, too. Not just a character in her wildest dreams.

She fights the urge to go and kiss her head, smell her hair, caress her satin-like cheeks, tell her she loves her three thousand. Even clenches her fists as she suddenly finds herself missing her daughter. Her daughter that is right there, a short distance away from her and will be awake in four hours. The love Vivi has for her is insurmountable and everyday she finds something new to love about her.

And it's something like this that she only dared to dream about years ago.

All this worrying made her lose her sleepiness completely and in no way is she able to go back to sleep in this state. A state that is made out of pure relief. She's wide awake as she closes her daughter's door too before proceeding down the hall towards the family room. Doesn't bother to turn on the lights since - for a miraculous reason - she isn't scared of the darkness anymore. Hasn't been for the past few years now.
