We sat and ate our food in silence.
My mum occasionally commenting on how the noodles were perfectly done or how the cake was a bit too sweet for her liking- but she thanked Max anyhow and she ever so slightly apologized- but it wasn't anything to praise her over.
"Well...it is getting rather late." My Mum says as she gathers her things and Max walks her to the door. "Thank you, Max...for taking such good care of her....even though she can be cold and a pain."
He inwardly sighs and I can tell he just wants to shut the door.
"You're very welcome...and maybe sometime you could meet Luna. Ya know...if you can get past the small gangly white child." He jokes and at first my mother wants to scorn him, but she understands and looks apologetic.
"It might not be too bad...having a step grandchild to visit..." She quietly remarks and smiles at Max one more time before looking to me. "You know the house number...it hasn't changed. If you need anything."
"I appreciate it Mum. Thank you." I state and she nods thanks before leaving. Max shuts the door and looks at me with a wide grin and open arms.
"Not as bad as it could've been." He states and I fold into him.
"I think you may have actually won her over...by a very small sliver."
"One small sliver for man. One gigantic sliver for man kind!" He makes fake cheering noises and gently shakes me from side to side.
"Haha, stop... I'm gonna be sick on you...."
"Okay...okay...I'm sorry, Honey Bunny."
"Do I get to open my present?" I ask and he nods. Gathering it, we take it to my small grey loveseat and sit down.
"This is from everyone-not just myself."
"I'm so excited!" I begin opening the blue and yellow watercolor paper and when I open it all the way, I find a very beautiful Photobook. The cover is a matte photo of us all in a group at the Nurses Station after a Christmas party during Max's Cancer. The pictures through out the book are simply amazing candies and weird filtered selfies everyone took off their camera rolls. There's some very sweet ones of Max and Luna and then myself and Luna as well.
Photos of Iggy and Lauren doing some weird poses make me laugh so hard I start to cry and then of course there's the even weirder ones of Iggy trying to get Kapoor to do the Jack and Rose from Titanic and I literally almost piss myself that I have to get up and run to the bathroom.
When I finish and come back, Max is just staring at a page that has several photos of myself and he's just smiling longingly. Standing behind him at the back of the couch- I reach around and press a kiss to his neck.
"Come on. I'll finish looking at it later."
Shutting off my lights and stripping my clothes off on the way to the bedroom- I remember and quickly run to lock the front door and Max laughs as he finds me topless and skittering to the front door as if the he wouldn't see me amongst the stove light that is left on.
Getting in the bedroom, I remove my pants and crawl under the covers and wait for him. He comes in- removing his own clothes and he crawls into bed beside me.
"I miss my king size bed." I state and he looks at me.
"Sorry I'm too close." He comments with a snarky attitude though I know he's joking.
"Full size is just too small. Even for myself."
"You are fucking tiny. How can't you fit in this bed by yourself?"
