I woke up in a warm comfortable bed. At first I thought I was back at home until I opened my eyes. That's when I remembered that I had left home and stumbled upon this "community" of sorts. I was grateful that they were willing to allow me to spend the night. Especially since I had no intentions of joining the community. I stretched a little before slowly getting out of bed. I rubbed my eyes a little and then walked into the bathroom. I brushed my hair and took a shower. Once I was dressed I gathered my things and stepped outside. As I walked along the paved pathway that lead to the cafeteria, I noticed various small branches strewn about. 'The wind must have been blowing really hard last night.' I thought to myself.
I was happy to see the blue sky and sunshine even though it was kinda cold. I spotted various other people walking towards the cafeteria. I found it kinda odd that all of them were wearing white clothing. But I decided to not think about it too much. When I reached the cafeteria I took in my surroundings. There weren't any pictures on the wood paneled walls. There were several whitish gray tables that were obviously plastic. Each rectangle table had gray metal chairs. Everyone except for the staff were wearing white. The staff members in the cafeteria were wearing black. I could feel people staring at me, and I knew it was because I wasn't wearing white clothing.
I tried to not let it bother me, but it made me feel awkward. "How can I help you?" A woman asked me curiously. I ordered pancakes, eggs, bacon, toast, and strong black coffee. I was handed a red plastic tray with plates of food and my coffee cup on it. I carefully walked to a table that didn't have anyone sitting at it. All the while I felt eyes on me. To make myself feel a little better, I decided to not make eye contact with anyone. I started eating quietly and enjoyed the food. The coffee was so strong it probably could have woke the dead, which is exactly how I like it. I glanced out of a window every now and then as I ate my breakfast. I was almost finished with my pancakes when someone walked over to the table.
When I looked up I saw the man who walked me to the cabin last night. "Y/n, I know that you most likely wanted to leave today, but I have bad news. There was a wind storm last night and a tree has blocked the road out of here." The man in velvet burgundy looking robes said. "Oh. How long do you think it would take for them to remove the tree?" I asked curiously. "Unfortunately, we don't know. I'm very sorry." He replied. I let out a deep sigh before taking a drink of coffee. "It's okay. I'll just leave once the path is clear as long as it's during daylight hours." I said. We talked for a few minutes before he left. I was disappointed that I wouldn't be able to leave, but I guess it wasn't all bad. At least I still had a place to sleep at night and a hot meal three times a day.
I just wondered if I would have to join in the activities they have here. I hoped that I wouldn't have to honestly. When I finished my breakfast I threw my trash away. Then I took the dishes back to the cafeteria workers so they could wash them. After that I decided to go for a walk. I saw a man with platinum blonde hair wearing all white. He was surrounded by several of the community members. It looked as if he was teaching a meditation class or something. I stopped to watch them for a moment. It was quiet and peaceful here; the perfect environment to meditate. He looked familiar to me and it took me a moment to remember where I had saw him before.
He was in that one poster I spotted when I first arrived here. 'He must be the community leader or something.' I thought. I watched as he slowly opened his eyes. I felt a little embarrassed because he locked eyes with me. It felt like I had been caught eavesdropping on a private conversation. But I found myself unable to look away. Maybe it was the pretty shade of blue of his eyes, or something else. It was like we were in some kind of staring contest, except blinking was acceptable. A few moments passed before it felt like I could look away. I smiled softly and a small smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. I looked away continued on my walk for a while before returning to my cabin.
