Fall Getaway

I was sitting in the back row of my friend's van. The windows were down letting in some refreshing air. I smiled softly as I looked out of the window at the beautiful scenery. The trees were full of red, orange, and yellow colored leaves. The sky was blue and cloudless. My friends and I had rented a cabin up in the mountains. I was really looking forward to spending a few weeks with them. Especially since we haven't been able to spend time together for a long time. Every time I asked to hangout with them they were always busy. Jack pulled into a convenience store, parking next to a gas pump. "I'm gonna stretch my legs and see if they have a bathroom." I said as I got out of the vehicle. The others did the same as Jack started pumping gas into the van.

We all walked into the convenience store and looked around. Everyone else seemed to group together while I was off on my own. But I didn't mind especially since we would all spend time together at the cabin. I went to the bathroom before picking out some snacks and drinks. Then I looked around for my friends, but I didn't find them in the store. So I just walked up to the cashier and paid for my things. When I walked outside I looked around, but I didn't see Jack's van. 'Where did they go?' I wondered, panicked a little. When I glanced over at a nearby bench my heart broke. My bags were sitting on the bench I walked over and sat next to my things. Then my phone buzzed.

Jack: We never wanted you to come with us on this trip. We wanted to cut you out of the group for a while, but you couldn't take a fucking hint. Why do you think we were always busy when you wanted to hangout? We agreed that leaving you at the convenience store would get through to you. Call someone to pick you up. I'm sure your mother will come and get you. Lol

I felt tears filling my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. I didn't want to cry in public. I felt abandoned and betrayed. I just lost who I thought were my best friends. Plus they let me pay part of the rental and just abandoned me. My insides hurt and it was a little hard to breathe. "Hey, are you alright?" A male voice caught my attention. I blinked away a few tears before looking up. I saw a man with brown curly hair in a black leather jacket. He was wearing black jeans and white leather boots as well. As he got closer I could see the concern in his blue eyes. "No... not really." I replied shyly. "What's wrong?" He asked as he stopped a few feet from me. "My friends... well... people I thought were my friends, left me here." I said.

I told him how I thought we were going on a fall getaway, but they abandoned me. It was too late for my mom to come and get me. She has to go into work early tomorrow and the drive up here and back would be too long. "I'm sorry for telling you all of this." I said, feeling embarrassed for over sharing. "It's okay, don't worry about it. I'm sorry they left you here all alone. Do you have anyone to take you home?" He said. The look on his face made me feel like he actually cared. "My mom, but she has to go into work early tomorrow. I really don't wanna bother her, but I don't know what to do. I don't have a place to stay." I replied feeling stressed. A free moments of silence passed before he spoke again. "I know I'm a stranger, but... you could spend the night at my cabin. I have a spare room and everything." He replied with sympathy in his pretty eyes.

"Wait... you would really do that?" I asked, surprised by his kindness. "Of course. My name is Barns by the way." He replied with a small smile. "My name is y/n." I replied and thanked him. "It's nice to meet you y/n." He said with a small smile. "It's  nice to meet you too." I said before he went inside to pay for his gas. I drank some of the hot coffee I had purchased. The warmth of the cup in my hands was comforting. When he came out of the convenience store he had a couple of shopping bags. I saw a loaf of bread peeking out of one of them. I grabbed my things and followed him to his car. I thanked him again as he helped me place my bags in the back of his vehicle. I got into the passenger side while he got into the driver's seat.

I buckled up and he did the same before he pulled out of the parking lot. We made small talk during the drive. It didn't really take us long to get to his cabin. He parked the car and turned off the ignition. When I got out I grabbed my bags. He grabbed his shopping bags as well. The cabin looked cozy on the outside and the inside. I could actually see why someone would enjoy living here. I was probably stupid for agreeing to stay at his place, especially since he's a stranger. But what else could I do?
