"Hey little sweet potato baby, I'm Auntie Callie and I am your mommy's favorite surgeon in this whole hospital" Callie spoke to Miranda's baby bump while they were lying in an on-call room.
"Callie, I know your wife told you to keep an eye on me but I am fine. I am taking iron supplements and I have my snacks in my lab coat and Ben sent a recipe for a pregnancy nutrient packed smoothies which are disgusting but I drink them" Miranda groaned "so please let me sleep"
"Well, we have a surgery in like 10 minutes"
"No already" She groaned and got up
"Might want to make our way to see if the patient is ready" Callie got up"you really abandoned Ben in here after sex"
"We have a patient" Miranda walked out. Callie ran behind her and they headed to the patient's room. Richard noticed them walking. He was glad Miranda found her groove in peds but he missed his protégé. He would still catch her in the gallery of his surgeries from time to time. If she ever decided Peds wasn't for her he would welcome her back with open arms. But he was sure she was settled in her specialty.
Miranda and Callie walked in the patient's room. Sloan and Avery were standing there waiting for them. The patient was a 15 year old extreme sports enthusiast named Xavier but he insisted on being called X-Treme. He had been seen before for all sorts of broken bones. Now he was here to get surgery to fix an improperly healed leg fracture and surgery to fix his deviated septum.
"Thought you two bailed on me" Xavier laughed
"And miss the chance to say I fixed the X-Treme's leg" Callie smiled
"No students today" He asked
"How many times can we show them us fixing your bones" Miranda teased him
"Dr. Bailey has jokes" He smiled
"Alright so here's our game plan. I'm going to re break that break and set it so it can heal right" Callie pointed to his X-Rays
"I got that snowboarding with my buddies. It didn't even seem broken" He sighed "but the memories were stellar. Totally worth it"
"Which you didn't tell your mother and I about" His dad sighed
"And while she's fixing your leg, We'll be working on your nose" Mark examined him
"Dr. Bailey you going to hold my hand" Xavier joked
"I'll be too busy doing surgery"
"Well if Dr. Torres is fixing my leg and Dr. Sloan and Dr. Avery are making sure I stay so good looking. What are you going to be working on"
"Someone has to be on the leg with me" Callie laughed
"So I'll have to get Dr. Bailey to hold my hand another time" He pouted
"Think she's too old for you son" His dad laughed
"Yeah, and pregnant" He added
Everyone froze in the room. Callie looked at Mark. Mark looked at Callie. Miranda looked at Xavier and Jackson wasn't sure where to look. The smiles quickly faded and Miranda cleared her throat.
"Right so see you in the OR" She nodded and walked out
"Avery you heard nothing" Callie pointed at him and walked out
"Telling you Avery if you have a question go ahead and bury it. Way way down. We have a nose to focus on. Nothing else matters" Mark gave him a pat on the back. "Ready Xavier"
"Was she not telling people. My mom just had a baby so I could tell. I didn't mean to expose her or whatever"
"Just focus on surgery" Mark smiled. They took him to the OR. Miranda and Callie were scrubbing together.
