Chapter 8

Sophie's POV

I tiredly arrived home and threw all my stuff in the sofa and as expected Linh came in.

"So how was it?"

"Fine. Talked about work, but there's a newer recruit who's joining next week. Her name is Biana. She seemed really nice."

"Finally you have work friends! I'm so happy for you! So how'd it go with Fitz?"

"Linh, you ask as if something happened, or will ever happen. I just have a silly crush on him. And he's my boss, no way he likes me either."

"Let's think about it for a moment. Has he driven any other of the employees to their house? Or even walked them to the door? Has he ever lended his clothes over to another employee because they got their shirt dirty?"

"No, because I'm just clumsy." Linh rolled her eyes.

"I doubt he would do that if it were someone else anyways." She stated.

"They were just kind acts. They didn't actually mean anything."

"He let you keep the hoodie!"

"So?"

"Sophie, he would've asked for it back if he didn't like you. But since he does, he let you keep it."

"Linh please, you're just feeding into my delusions. He doesn't like me and that's it. Besides, I just got out of a relationship, I don't need another one." Linh huffed.

"Fine. But when he does tell you, I'll tell you the fattest "I told you so" ever." I laughed.

"I know you will. But I'm so tired, I think I'm gonna head to bed."

"All right, good night!"

"Good night." Linh made her way out of my apartment and I made my way into my room. I changed my clothes and brushed my teeth getting into bed. I read myself a few chapters of a book before putting the book down and turning off my small lamp. As soon as I closed my eyes I was fast asleep.

(Time Skip)

I finished up my breakfast, washing my plates. I was meeting up with Dex at noon and I was already late.

I got driven by an Uber and found Dex in his phone, sitting on a bench. Dex looked up once he heard me getting closer and smiled as he stood up.

"Hey Sophie!" Dex said as we hugged.

"How are you?"

"Good, how are you?"

"Good thanks. So what have you been up to?" I ask him. He shrugged his shoulders.

"Nothing much. Tam has been acting kind of weird lately." Dex and Tam were roommates. I raised an eyebrow.

"How so?" I ask.

"I just feel like he's hiding something. He's been acting weird lately. He's been... happy. Like randomly when he's on his phone he'll smile at it or just at random. And he's always going out dressed fancily and not arriving until later at night."

"Dex, you know by just those context clues I think you can easily predict he probably has a girlfriend." I said.

"The thought never actually came to mind. I wonder why he didn't tell me."

"He probably didn't want you to blab it on to everyone else." He nodded his head in agreement.

"Enough about Tam, what's up with you? How's work going?"

"Good. We're having a new recruit start on Monday. She's really nice."

"That's cool. How have you been with Andrew?"

"Nothing really has been happening. And I don't feel upset. I'm glad I broke up with him, I know I'm better off without him."

"That's good to hear, but Linh has been telling me you're crushing on your boss?" My cheeks turn red.

"She talks to you about my love life?"

"Well... yeah. I swear I won't say anything to anyone."

"Thank you but I don't know why she's been telling you about that."

"Is she right though?" Dex asked.

"Yeah."

"Your boss? Out of anyone to like, you chose your boss?" I roll my eyes, my cheeks turning a bit red.

"I know it's not the most ideal person but yeah. I already know it's never going to work or happen." Dex raised an eyebrow.

"Why do you say that?" He asked.

"Well I mean he's the CEO of a really big company and I'm his employee. I'm sure everyone would talk about us, and I just don't think he even likes me anyways."

"From what Linh has told me she said he has a crush on you." My cheek turned even more read Ms do bury my face in my hands.

"She's never even met him. I love Linh but she needs to butt out of my business." Dex laughed.

"That's Linh for you."

"So how have you been?"

"Good thanks. The store is doing very well." I smile.

"That's great." We continued to talk and caught up with each other. Talking with Dex was very fun and it was good to know what was happening in his life. Once it got dark we decided to head home and he had generously dropped me off.

I entered my apartment building and made my way inside my apartment. I sighed and took a seat on the couch. I changed into pajamas and brushed my teeth before slipping in my bed and turning off the lights. I realized how early it was and decided to read myself to sleep.

When I finished it was 9:30 and I decided to put away the book and head to sleep. As soon as my head hit the pillow I fell into a deep sleep.
