I grab my car keys and phone before walking out of my room.
"Brooke! I'm going to work!" I call out to her as I put my shoes on.
"Okay!" I hear her call from her room.
I open the door and freeze when I see Chris standing there, about to knock.
"Hi." He says.
"Hi." I say.
I hated this tension.
"Brooke is in her room." I say as I let him come in.
He nods as he takes his shoes off.
"How are you liking your book?" I ask, holding back my laugh.
He looks at me and smiles, "It's pretty interesting, actually." He says.
"What is?" I hear Brooke's voice.
I look at her and see her standing there, looking at us.
"Nothing." Chris says as he walks up to her.
Brooke smiles at him before they make their way to her room. I watch them, Chris looks back at me and smiles.
Jesus christ.
I walk out of the apartment and head downstairs to my car. I drove to the bookstore for my shift, I liked my job. It was easy and not chaotic like other jobs.
I organized books on the shelves, but today was slow. Not many people but I wasn't complaining.
One more hour left and I get to go home and sleep. I hear the door open and I peek over the bookshelf and see Chris walk in.
I frown as he looks around before he spots me. I watch a smile appear on his lips. I ignore him and go back to organizing the books.
"What book do you recommend?" I hear his voice.
I look over at him and see him holding two random pregnancy books.
I laugh.
"How many months are you?" I ask.
He looks down at his flat stomach, "About 7 months." He smiles.
I laugh again.
"Hm, I say that one." I say pointing to one of the books he was holding.
"Whatever you say." He says.
I smile at him.
"Is there anything else I can help you with?" I ask.
"Yeah, I wanna know your name." He says.
I stare at him, "Why?" I ask.
He shrugs, "I'm curious." He says.
I frowned at him, he was strange. I didn't understand him.
"Let me check that out for you." I say taking the book from him.
I walk past him and make my way behind the counter. I scan his book and he gives me his card.
I swipe the card before handing it back to him.
"Receipt." He smiles.
I print it out and hand it to him.
"Come again, blondie," I smile.
"You know I will, strange book girl." He smirks as he grabs his stuff.
I watch him walk out and hold back my smile. I hated that I was smiling because of that.
