Dakota

I hand the man his receipt and smile at him as he thanks me. He grabs his book and walks towards the exit. I look down at my phone and check the time before a book gets placed on the counter. A pregnancy book.
I smile as I look up and see Chris smirking at me.
"New book already?" I ask.
"I'm a fast reader." He says.
I laugh as I take the book and scan it. He hands me his card and I swipe it, I print his receipt and hand it to him.
"When do you get off?" He asks.
"In 30 minutes." I say.
"Wanna come over to my place?" he asks.
"Why?" I ask.
"I got the house to myself for one night, I was just gonna binge a bunch of horror movies." He explains.
"Is this your way of asking for netflix and chill?" I joke.
"Hell nah, we're just friends, remember?" He smirks.
I smile, I wish I didn't wanna go. But I really did.
"Fine." I say.
"Yay!" He says.
I laugh at him.
"I shall wait here until you finish." He says as he sits on the counter.
"Your face is gonna scare away the customers." I laugh.
"My face is beautiful, look at this smile." He says as he flashes a smile at me.
I roll my eyes and shake my head.
He opens the pregnancy book and flips through the pages.
"Oh my god we should stop by the store and grab a bunch of snacks." He says.
"What kind of snacks?" I ask.
"Takis." he smirks.
"Ew, I hate those." I say.
He gasps, "I'm very disappointed in you, Dakota. I don't think we can be friends, I'm actually gonna just jump off a bridge now." he says.
I laugh at him as a customer walks in, Chris looks over at her and smiles.
"Welcome to mi casa!" He cheers.
The lady frowns at him and I slap Chris's arm.
He chuckles as the lady walks around the bookstore.
"Don't you have a boss?" He asks.
"Yeah, but she's never here. We're a small business, and she trusts me." I tell him.
He nods.
The lady gets her books and places them on the counter.
"Did you know she's my future wife?" Chris says to her as he points at me.
She laughs, "That's amazing." She says.
I glare at Chris and he smiles.
"Don't you think our babies would look adorable?" He asks.
"Shut up, Christopher." I say as I scan the books.
"Yes, I do." She says.
"30.50," I tell her.
She hands me her card and I swipe it before handing it back.
I hand her a receipt and she thanks me.
"Come again." I smile.
