Chapter 26:

"DALE'S trustworthiness is now in doubt," Mathis clenched his jaw while observing Fornax lying unconscious in the hospital bed.

Amira softly strokes Fornax's hair, her eyes betraying her concerns. "Why hasn't he regained consciousness yet?"

"The doctor assured us he'll recover, but the head injury could be severe," Mathis explained, exhaling heavily as his attention returned to Fornax.

Amira turned her gaze towards Mathis and asked, "Thank you, Mathis. How did you have a sense that something unfortunate might occur to us?"

"Nahuli ko kasi si Dale noong nakaraan na may katawag siya sa phone." Mathis began revealing the truth to Amira about his conversation with Dale. "He appeared fearful of the person he was speaking to, and I overheard them. During their discussion, I discovered that he had betrayed our organization by selling sensitive information he had gained through his hacking abilities."

"I made an effort to contact you, Amira, but my family has also been pursued by the royals, which delayed my communication regarding Dale," Mathis explained.

"Did Dale inform you about what potentially occurred last night?" Amira inquired of Mathis.

"No, he didn't disclose any details. He simply admitted his betrayal when I confronted him," Mathis replied to Amira. "As the royals began pursuing me and my entire family, it dawned on me that they might come after you too, considering your connection as Cree's mother."

"Thank you, Mathis. I'm not sure how I can ever repay you," Amira expressed her gratitude to Mathis, acknowledging his exceptional leadership and the help he has provided to numerous individuals.

Mathis offered a warm smile, his purple eyes filled with optimism. "Of course, Amira. Fornax is family, and you're part of our agent community," he replied.

"Amira..." Nabuhayan naman ng loob si Amira nang marinig niya si Fornax. "Where are we?" Fornax inquired as he slowly opened his eyes.

"Great to see you alive, Primo," Mathis said as he stood up and approached Fornax.

Nahagilap ng mga mata ni Fornax si Mathis. Fornax didn't have a clue about the situation and why Mathis was present, considering that Mathis was his least favorite cousin.

Fornax turned his gaze toward Amira, anticipating her to provide him with an explanation of the situation.

Natutop naman ni Amira ang kanyang bibig. Lumingon rin siya kay Mathis at naghihintay kung ano ang isasagot nito.

Mathis noticed Amira's uncertainty and decided to step in. "I was out fishing last night, Primo," he began. "I wasn't aware that I was close to your private island. I stumbled upon a crashing helicopter and naturally went to check for survivors."

"Is this true, Amira?" Fornax inquired of his wife. His last memory was swimming towards her as the helicopter malfunctioned. "I can't recall anything after I went under the water," he added, expressing his lack of recollection of events.

Hinaplos naman ni Amira ang balikat ng asawa. "Hey, it's okay. Buti na lang nakita tayo kagabi ni Mathis at naidala ka kaagad sa hospital. You were struck hard by a part of the helicopter's transmission, and you were bleeding last night."

"Thank you, Primo." Seryosong nagpasalamat naman si Fornax sa pinsan niya.

Tumango lamang si Mathis at tumingin sa wall clock. "It's already 2 PM, so I need to head home now."

"I'll walk you out," Amira offered, rising from her seat to accompany Mathis to the door.

Fornax didn't feel the need to intervene, and he was genuinely grateful to his cousin for rescuing them. Hindi rin siya nagtataka kung ano ba ang ginagawa ni Mathis kagabi at kung bakit nakarating siya malapit sa isla.
