AU where Snape is not a git

"STOP IT! GIVE ME BACK MY BOOK!" Scarlet demanded whilst walking into her first potions lesson, however Draco Malfoy wouldn't budge.

"And what are you going to do if I don't give it back? Cry? Oh wait, you're already crying! Imagine crying because of a stupid book, but I guess that's what happens when you don't have any friends." He replied, making the other Slytherins roar with laughter.

Scarlet was shorter than most of her classmates, so for Draco Malfoy, who could easily tower over her, she was an easy victim. He often made rude remarks about her height.

"Mister Malfoy, I suggest you return the book to Miss Lupin-Black and take a seat. Also expect ten points to be taken from Slytherin." Snapes monotone voice appeared behind the girl. The others gasped, Snape had never taken points from his own house.

During the lesson he continued thinking about the girl. Her behaviour was similar to his in his first years at Hogwarts. Sensitive and motivated for learning. She had obviously taken the time to read through the school books, as she was able to answer each of his questions. The teacher silently promised himself to look out for her.

At the end of the lesson, Snape even gave five points to Ravenclaw for the girl's knowledge. When the bell rang, everyone packed their bags and swiftly ran out of the room to get to lunch.

Before Scarlet exited the classroom, she quickly thanked the man for his help earlier. Outside Harry waited for her, they had wanted to get their lunch together.

Whilst they walked to the great hall, the professor kept wondering about her. She looked just like two people he really hated, but still, he couldn't help the soft spot that he had for her.

Since that day, not only did Draco get Slytherin lots of points taken for bullying her, she also never had to work on a potions project with someone she wouldn't feel comfortable with.
