"Oh, it's blood."

My entire body froze and went numb for a few good moments after the words left his mouth. And the way he said it made me nervous. It was almost too casual. His body heat touched me, causing me to straighten my back and move away to give him a closer look. But we were unable to because of the darkness all around us.

I released my wrist from his grip and touched his face, and he made a deep sound. And there is sticky liquid all over his cheeks.

Blood.

"Rudra, tell me! What happened?"

He released his grip, and I took a sharp breath when he wrapped his arms around my waist in their place.

"There is nothing serious you should be concerned about."

"but-"

I paused as he removed his arm from my waist, walked towards the couch and sat down, his thighs spread. He reclines, laying his arms across it, and I can feel the heat from his intense gaze flitting across my body. I took a few small, slow steps back and flicked on the lights. When I finally took a look at his condition, my mouth opened in a loud gasp.

His jaw was bruised badly, and there was a cut over it with speckles of crimson seeping out. White shirt rolled up to his elbows but was partly soaked in blood at the chest area. Then I saw the condition of his hands; blood was seeping from the scratches on his knuckles. The trail of droplets running down his arms indicates that his palms are also hurting.

"What the hell happened to you? What happened—did you get into a fight?" I asked, then quickly started to move in his direction but stopped.

"Where are they?"

As I stood there, I was perplexed by his question. What was he talking about? Sensing my confusion, he spoke again.

"Your anklets."

The realisation dawned on me, and I recall the photo and the text.

"I removed it while I was bathing." After saying that, I hurriedly went to get them from the bathroom.

"Put them on." I felt a tiny chill go down my spine when I heard the tone of his voice.

Sensing the tension in the air, I refrained from objecting and instead sat down on the bed to tie them around my ankles. I looked at him as I was securing the two of them, and my worry for him was overwhelming my senses. However, he displayed no signs of discomfort. Not a wince. Nothing at all.

"Now, Chandini, take the robe off."

My hands first stopped, and then my wide, startled eyes shifted to face him. But his eyes were hooded, hot and calm as he watched me.
