Aside from Y/N's detention on the first day of the school year, a very exciting week was starting for her. Merlin's Week. It was the second week after summer break when the seventh-year students made the sixth-year students do all sorts of hilarious and crazy things. The whole week was led by a Headmaster, the highest role in the Merlin's Week hierarchy. The Headmaster for this year's week was of course Fred due to his popularity among his yearmates and since George declined the role. A step below Headmasters were Professors who had the important task of finding their Apprentices, the sixth-year students. Merlin's Week was different every year as it depended heavily on the Headmaster and the Professors and the lengths they would reach. The weekend before, Fred, with the help from George gathered everyone at the Great Hall, after other students and the actual professors had left.
"May I have everyone's attention?" Fred asked as he stood behind Dumbledore's podium, George standing next to him, both grinning. The Great Hall quieted, the sixth and seventh-year students diverting their attention to the redhead. "Fantastic. So, I'm sure I don't need to introduce Merlin's Week to anyone at this point, considering what happened last year," Fred spoke with a laugh, the seventh-year students snickering quietly. The last year's Merlin's Week had ended with the Slytherin dungeon's explosion, the whole common room getting flooded. "Let's not do that this year as I'm sure no one wants to write a letter to Snape," Fred commented. "Either way, Merlin's Week is beginning next week and by that time every Apprentice has to find their Professor. Failing to do that will cause a punishment and trust me, we have a wide variety this year," The boy continued. "Your Professor will send you an owl with details on Sunday morning which is in," Fred said and looked at his watch. "In less than twelve hours," He added and then eyed around the hall. "Details are revealed on the way. The only thing set at the moment is the party and that takes place in the Slytherin's common room, at ten in the evening," Fred ended his speech and left the podium, letting George speak. "Professors can choose whoever they want even from another house," George began and made eye contact with Y/N. The girl's breath got caught in her throat as she already guessed what would ensue. "Merlin's Week isn't mandatory but it is encouraged for every sixth year to participate. The more the merrier," George added and smiled. "Let's be responsible and not... give Dumbledore extra work," He finished and stepped off, the Great Hall erupting in loud cheers and chatter.
The next morning, Y/N jolted awake as the sunlight shone through the window, flooding the bedroom with bright rays. She rolled over and buried her head in the pillow groaning as sleep still grasped her. A little thump behind the window caught her attention. An owl sat on the windowsill, a note grasped in its sharp beak. The girl opened the window and carefully took the note. "Come find me, the most charming, handsome, funniest and tallest in the year ;)" The letter read as Y/N giggled, a certain redhead already in her mind. She hadn't gotten dressed at such a pace in a long time, going straight to the quest of finding her Professor. George was nowhere to be found as she had searched everywhere already, no sign of even George, let alone Fred. The girl wanded through the halls as she thought about where to look next until she stumbled into Fred's girlfriend, Angelina who was just as lost as Y/N. "I suppose you're looking for your Professor as well?" Angelina questioned, knowing that they had the twins as their Professors. "Yes! And I cannot find them anywhere," The girl replied with a sigh. "They are definitely doing it on purpose," Angelina said, sighing as well. Suddenly, the girls looked at each other at the same time. "Library!" The pair exclaimed in unison and sprinted towards the place.
The library was quiet at this time of day and just like they hoped the redheads were there, laughing together. As Angelina and Y/N approached them, breathing still quick from the morning jog at Hogwarts, the boys smirked. "Took you guys long enough," Fred said with a laugh. "We thought you already lost your way." George continued his brother's sentence with a grin. "We weren't about to give up that easily," Angelina replied, voice full of annoyance. "Besides, when have you ever spent time in the library," Y/N commented and rolled her eyes in faux annoyance. George and Fred took each a pile of clothes from the desk and handed them to the girls. "I'm not wearing that," Y/N said with a shocked face as she held the black robe in her hands. "Aww, but it's lovely," George replied, a huge smile plastered on his face. "I'm sure Snape will give you extra points on your next Potions test," The redhead added with a laugh. "And then suffer through detention in that outfit? No thanks," The girl said. "As your professor and the brother of the Headmaster, I demand that you wear this costume tomorrow," George stated with a teasing tone as he looked straight into her eyes. Y/N caved and lowered the dress robe. "Fine. I'll wear it. But just know, I hate you," She added. "Hate is a strong word, love," The boy retorted, tilting his head.
The next morning, Y/N joined the other students who were all gathered at the bridge, all dressed up in her black dress robes with a flowing cape trailing after her that she kept stumbling on and her hair turned black to complete the Snape appearance. The girl heard a gasp behind her and she turned around instantly. "Who could've thought you could pull off Snape so well?" Angelina joked, trying to hold back a laugh. "Speak for yourself, Dumbledore," Y/N replied with a smile as she eyed her outfit. Angelina was wearing sparkling blue dress robes with a pointed hat and a fake beard. A loud whistle cut through the air, and everyone turned around to find the Headmaster standing by the entrance of the castle. "Good morning to Apprentices. It's time for a morning run to keep you healthy!" Fred yelled and eyed the sixth-years. "A lap around the school. Go!" The redhead added and the Apprentices began running. Of course, the first lesson Y/N had that day was Potions. With a heavy sigh, she entered the dimly lit classroom, other dressed-up sixth-years looking her way. "You look lovely," A dreamy voice said behind her as Y/N turned around to see Luna behind her, a soft smile on the girl's face. Luna was also forced to wear a ridiculous outfit as she straightened it. Y/N was about to reply when the door flew open and Snape strutted in. The classroom tried to keep quiet from laughing as Snape eyed around the room. Snape noticed her, a look of disgust was evident, sighed and turned back to the class to begin the lesson. Y/N felt her cheeks starting to burn with humiliation as she cursed George under her breath.
After the lessons were over, Apprentices were gathered in the Great Hall once again. Fred, George and other Professors standing in front of the hall smile wide on their faces. "Good evening, Apprentices. I hope you had a lovely day with no detention from Snape," Fred said, looking straight at Y/N who stood out from the others with her all-black outfit. The girl laughed and shook her head. "Now it's time for the Merlin's Dance!" Fred announced and Muggle music began playing magically, the Apprentices starting with the embarrassing dance. The dance needed two students as it portrayed a love story. It was neck-breaking since there were moments when one student held the other high up in the air while spinning around and then dropping them down without injuring the other. Thankfully, no one got hurt and once the song ended, Professors clapped proudly. Y/N had danced with Angelina, the girls both laughing as they made a stunning pair. "Good job," George found her in the crowd and placed a hand on her shoulder. "We have a special task for you two," The redhead added, bringing Angelina and Y/N to the corridor next to the hall. "We have a special potion for you," Fred stated as he took a small jar of black liquid out of his pocket. "Oh no," Y/N mumbled. "It won't kill you," George reassured with a smirk as Fred opened it. A horrible smell drifted around them. "Are you sure?" Angelina asked, eyebrows raised. The redheads nodded. "Bottoms up," The twins said and both Y/N and Angelina got a shot. The potion was vile, both of the girls' eyes watered as they tried to drink it. "What is it?" Y/N questioned as Angelina had a hand over her mouth. "Soy and mustard with a hint of vodka," George replied with a smirk, Fred expressing the same. "I think I'm going to puke," Angelina muttered and ran off to the bathroom. "Why?" The girl asked as the aftertaste hit her. "We had the same potion last year," Fred answered simply. "It was mad," George commented and chuckled.
