In the weeks that followed, a sombre atmosphere settled over The Burrow. The once lively home now echoed with a muted silence, the loss of Fred casting a shadow that seemed to darken every corner. George retreated to his room more often than not, and Y/N remained steadfast by his fiance's side. She spent hours with him, sitting in silence in those still moments between tears. They didn't speak much, but her presence alone seemed to offer a silent comfort. On another day that seemed similar to the previous ones, Y/N walked down the stairs and found Molly bustling around the kitchen. The air was filled with the familiar scent of cooking as the girl leaned against the doorframe. The older woman turned around catching sight of her "Y/N, dear," Molly said softly, her voice carrying a hint of her usual warmth despite the dark shadows under her eyes. "Breakfast is ready." Y/N nodded slightly and walked next to her as Molly handed her two plates of food. Y/N offered a weary smile, her voice quiet but sincere. "Thank you." She mumbled "It's alright," Molly said gently. "Make sure he eats something as well." Y/N sighed at Molly's sentence, both knowing the state George was in. "I'll try my best," She answered as Molly nodded and patted the girl's shoulder, "I know you will, dear."

She walked back upstairs, the room was dimly lit as the curtains were drawn, and only a faint silver of light seeped through the edges. Y/N approached the bed and set the tray of food down. She carefully reached out and ran her fingers through his hair, "George," She whispered softly. His eyes fluttered open as he stirred slightly and muttered, "Love?" George mumbled quietly. "I brought breakfast," Y/N said as he nodded groggily, rubbing a hand over his face as he slowly sat up, "Thank you." He picked at his food slowly, each bite feeling like a chore as her heart tightened at the sight of him. The hours slowly ticked by, the silence in the room punctuated only by the ticking of the clock and the occasional sounds of birds chirping outside. After a while, she spoke up. "George, maybe you could come downstairs for a bit. To get a bit of fresh air." He raised his head slightly, "I-," George tried to explain but his words got caught in his throat as he muttered, his voice barely above a whisper, "I can't." She sighed and put her hand over his. "George-" Y/N hoped to console the redhead but her sentence was cut off. "Every time I look in the mirror," He paused, his breath hitching in his throat, "I can't bear the thought of being a constant reminder of him to everyone. I can't bear the thought of Mum and Dad seeing me and-" George's voice trailed off, the anger that had fueled his words suddenly gave a way to an overwhelming sense of helplessness. The grip of his hand tightened against hers as tears streamed down his cheeks, landing on his chest with soft, quiet, taps. Y/N swiftly pulled him against her, as his body shook with the force of his sobs. He buried his face in her shoulder, his hands holding her as if she were the only thing keeping him from falling apart entirely. "We'll get through this," Y/N said softly and gently ran circles on his back, "I promise."

The transition into the new year marked a small but significant milestone in their lives. George had made a gradual return to work at the Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes. As George started to work again, Y/N would often be found by his side, helping out around the shop and doing her best to lighten his load in any way she could. Whether it was tending to customers, restocking shelves, or simply being a shoulder to lean on in the quieter moments. When Y/N wasn't in the joke shop, she was revising for her entrance interview to the Ministry. It had been her wish to become and Auror ever since she was little. Becoming an Auror was her dream and an unsaid moral point that Y/N wanted to fill while protecting herself and others. Most of the time Y/N was practising as she walked around the shop or going anywhere that was a slightly longer distance. The entree to the Ministry was very important and if she failed it, Y/N would've given up on her dreams

Y/N took a deep breath to calm her nerves as she stepped into the Ministry of Magic, clutching the documents in her hands tightly. Today was the day she would submit her application to begin her training as an Auror. With a mixture of anticipation and determination, she walked through the corridors of the Ministry, making her way towards the appropriate office. Y/N entered the office, she was greeted by a trio of ministry officials. Two men and a woman stood before her, their expressions professional yet friendly. The woman stepped forward with a polite smile, "Welcome," The woman greeted. "Y/N L/N?" She questioned. "Yes, a pleasure to meet you," Y/N replied and shook the woman's hand. "Likewise," The woman replied and continued, "I'm Amelia Clearwater, head of the Auror Training Department. These are my colleagues, Michael and Thomas," Amelia gestured towards the two men who nodded in response. "Let's get started shall we?" Amelia asked and showed Y/N to sit opposite them.

They scanned through her documents one by one as the younger man commented, "Ah, I see here you've achieved all Outstandings on your N.E.W.T.s. Impressive," One of the men finished with a nod of approval. "It has been mentioned here, that you have taken some curricular courses as well," The older man began, "Would you care to tell more about them? I'm particularly interested in the skills or knowledge they've helped you develop that might be useful in becoming an Auror." Y/N nodded and cleared her throat, "I took Alchemy, Ancient Runes and Apparition," She began, "Besides Potions, Alchemy provided me with a solid foundation in potion-making and magical transformation, which is critical in Auror work. Ancient Runes helped with understanding and interpreting ancient texts, which is crucial in solving complex cases. And Appritition..." She paused for a moment, considering her words. "It provides a quick and discreet means of transportation, which is invaluable in the field." The man smiled and nodded, clearly impressed by her list of extracurricular courses. "Very good," The woman said approvingly. "It sounds like you've taken some very useful courses that will undoubtedly help you in the Auror training program." She looked down at the documents again, flipping through them thoughtfully. "Based on what I've seen here," Amelia continued. "I do believe you're a strong candidate for the program."

After a few moments of further discussion, they looked up as the woman said, "We've decided you're in the program, miss L/N, congratulations." Y/N couldn't help but feel a wave of relief wash over her as Amelia announced her acceptance into the Auror training program. She smiled gratefully, trying to hide her excitement. "Thank you," she said, her voice filled with genuine gratitude, "I really appreciate this opportunity and am very excited to get started." Y/N bid farewell to the three Aurors, thanking them once again for their time and consideration. She gathered her documents and headed out of the office, still reeling from the news of her acceptance into the Auror program. As she walked out of the Ministry building, she felt a sense of determination and excitement welling up inside her. She knew that the road ahead would be challenging, but she was ready to embrace it wholeheartedly.
