Little snippets of the start of the long night. I hope you guys like it 🥰

Sansa looked out at the darkness and could not help but tremble. Robb and Jon had told her she would be allowed to go to the ramparts and see what was happening, but just for a few minutes. She needed to see what was coming for them. The chill in the air was like nothing she had ever felt before, it made her feel like she would never be warm again. She looked around and saw all the people moving into their positions, readying themselves for what was coming. Archers were positioned all over the inner and outer walls. She could also see the trenches that had been dug outside the walls. Sansa looked towards the Godswood and could see some of the soldiers moving around. Bran was there and Sansa was not happy about it, but her little brother had insisted.

She wanted to see the army of the dead; wanted to have an idea of what was coming for them, but all she could see was darkness. This darkness was not normal, it had an oily feeling to it and it made chills run down her spine. The men were not on the defensive, they knew there was no need. The night king and his army would be coming for all of them.

Sansa would be staying in the great hall with some of the other women. They would be helping the wounded and helping as much as they could. She hated this, hated not knowing what would happen, hated that her family was in danger.

"I do not like this." Robb looked at Jon, before looking towards Bran who was sitting calmly underneath the heart tree. "He should not be here."

"I do not like it either." Jon looked towards Brann also. "But he was insistent, if we had not brought him then he would have found a way to get here on his own. At least this way we will be able to protect him."

"He is using himself as bait." Robb had not been happy when Bran had insisted on coming with them. A part of him had wanted to lock him in his chambers but somehow knew that it would not be the right thing to do. "I do not want to have to worry about him."

"You told me once that it did not matter how old he was, we would always worry about him."

"I truly hate it when you quote me to myself." Jon let out a laugh. "It will be well, I have faith that you and him will survive this."

"I do not want to do this without you." Robb clapped his brother's shoulders before pulling him into a hug. Jon and him would not be together during the battle, Jon would be in the air on his dragon, while Robb would be in the Godswood doing everything possible to protect Bran.

Robb heard men shouting and a dragon roaring. Jon pulled away and he knew his brother had heard it also.

"It is time," Robb said and for a moment the words got stuck in his throat. "Farewell Snow."

"And you Stark."

This time there was no hug, nothing like when they had said goodbye before Jon left for the wall. Because this was it, and Robb did not want to say goodbye to his brother, at least not forever. He was hoping that at least one of them would survive this and he hoped that it would be Jon. The world needed more men like Jon, he would be an excellent king.

His brother gave him one last look before walking away quickly. Robb pulled out Ice as he went to stand near Brann, his brother just kept sitting still and utterly calm. They both watched as Rhaegal took to the sky, Jon on his back.

Jon looked down as Rhaegal flew through the air. He had never imagined he would be riding a dragon one day. He tried to see if he could get a good look at the army of the dead, but it was too dark and the snow was falling really fast. Rhaegal flew a bit lower and that is when Jon saw the dead, they were moving fast and then the dead were on top of the men from the Reach. Jon guided Rhaegal toward the trench a few feet from the Reach knights.

"DRACARYS!" Heat spilled forth as Rhaegal opened his maw and the entire sky seemed to light up as Drogo followed suit.

The soldiers cheered as hundreds of the dead were burnt. He and Daenerys set all the trenches on fire. Lord Tarly gave the signal and the archers let their arrows loose. Jon and Daenerys flew side by side as their dragons continued to spew fire and take down as many of the dead as possible.

Jon kept flying around and that was when he saw the dead giants and animals. His heart jumped to his throat as wave after wave of dead people kept attacking the living. They could not be stopped, no matter how hard they tried. Jon kept looking around as he tried to find the night king. He wanted to find the night king and kill him, he did not want that thing to get any closer to Winterfell and his family.

Rhaegal flew around the castle and Jon noticed the drop in temperature. It was much colder than on the other side of the wall. It took him a few seconds to realize what was happening. The night king had made it past the walls and was heading into the Godswood. Part of the wall had fallen and the dead were swarming the living.

There was a loud roar and Rhaegal banked to the left at the last minute before the dead dragon slammed into him. Daenerys was not so lucky, the dead dragon slammed into Drogo making the black dragon spin and fall. Jon could do nothing, but watch helpless as Drogo and Daenerys fell. The black dragon righted himself at the last minute, crashing into the ground on his belly. Daenerys flew off the dragon's back and rolled on the ground. Jon led Rhaegal down and ran to his aunt, making sure that she was well. He let out a relieved sigh when he noticed she was alive. They were in so much trouble.
