Alpha Tony's pov
Scanning the list of names for the hundredth time doesn’t change the numbers in the least.
We were fucked.
The most recent attack took away our best fighters, and a small chunk of the other warriors we have. The pack members from Red Dawn that are here to stay for the time being have been reduced to a couple dozen. So ya, we were most definitely fucked.
No matter which way I ran the numbers, there weren't enough trained males to guard our borders. Not enough to put into the tree stands, or on the ground. And out of those who were left, not one wanted to be part of the ground crew after Malcomb’s last little surprise.
Maybe it was time for us to consider joining the Ambersy or Moonwalker. Or maybe, I should have not been so lax and trained more fighters in the first place. We were a relatively small pack, so losing close to forty of those who could fight was a loss we just can't recover from. Add in the fact that a large chunk already left to join them a few days ago against my wishes, and our options are slim to none.
Pups and females. That’s the majority of what I had to work with. Neither in which could be used to defend us with. Not that I’ll be mentioning that if or when I make the call for asylum. Azariah alone will have my head for saying such a thing about females. To be fair, none have been trained like she has been. From what I hear, it’s something they’re trying to change over there. With Jace as the head of that training class.
Her and Micah were far too young to be running the show. So how the hell are they faring so well in this war? Shit luck would be my guess. Alpha Garette made it very clear that he was on the same page as Alpha Fenris and myself. We had a game plan, a good one at that.
I”m not even sure I could stomach living under their rule. Contacting Alpha Finn will be my first move. I can separate what’s left of Red Dawn and my pack between the two, but I think with Finn being older, he’ll have a better head on his shoulders.
Otherwise, someone may have to step in and show them all the way.
“Are you forgetting about the incident at the roadblock the other day? The one where Alpha Fenris got taken, and Alpha Finn sided with Azariah and Micah?” My mate patiently says. I’ve been running these ideas by her for the last few hours, just to see how she feels about this move.
“Ambersy has got to be better than Moonwalker. Finn is twenty-six. Much better than a couple twenty year olds. I’m sure if we are able to sit down one on one, he’ll see the right path.” I reason with her.
“I fear you are mistaken love. We either play by their rules, or stay right where we are.”
“Where we are is between Malcomb and all the other packs. We are the easiest for him to target, and the least capable of defending ourselves now. What other option do you see available?” I groan in annoyance. We’ve been over this already, and every idea I throw out, she squashes like a bug.
Theoretically, I know she’s right. But my pride is hearing none of it. There has to be a way out for us. One that doesn’t involve letting a couple of kids rule over us. Hell, I have kids of my own, I sure didn’t want to take orders from them.
Somebody needs to take charge of this before it gets too far out of hand.
Looking around my office, I can’t even imagine having to give it up. This was my domain. Where I ruled my own pack, and made the important decisions. My pack members depended on me to be responsible and look out for them. How could I ask them to live somewhere with questionable authority.
