Jace's pov
My new office sucked big time!
Plain white walls. An old ugly worn-out desk. A black leather chair that looked like Clueless sharpened his claws on. No pictures on the walls, no plants, and no air freshener.
How the hell did Alek spend most of his days in this shit hole?
I'm filled with regret for stopping here instead of heading straight home. I should have just called one of the other males and asked for the shift rotation to be sent to me via text. Figuring I needed to show responsibility, I came here in person instead.
"He keeps the schedule pinned to the board over there." Adler tells me. If it wasn't for the fact that I needed to select my share of the muscle for tonight's events, I'd turn around and never look back. Until I had a chance to fix this mess that was.
Azariah was gonna be taking three people with her, so I had to account for that as well. I'd bet good money Jared and Adler would be at the top of her list. As for the third? No clue.
As if on cue, the ancient landline phone rings. The sound is almost as horrific as the phone itself. No part of me wanted to touch it without a thorough bleaching that was.
"You wanna get that for me?" I jokingly ask Adler.
"Sorry, I'm allergic to bacteria." He gives it a skeptical look, then slowly backs out of the room.
"Go home and take a nap. I need you on the night shift later." I was gonna stick to my word and not tell anyone why I needed them, but I could at least prepare them somewhat.
"No problem, boss."
Grabbing a tissue, I cover the receiver and pick it up. "What!" I bark into the phone.
"Oh shit, I can't believe you actually picked up." Micah's laughter filled voice comes crackling into my ear.
"I have a cell phone, asshole." I remind him.
"I'm aware. Listen, Amber and I are on the way back to your house, and we just got a call from Luna Bethany. You're gonna love this,"
I hang up the phone, then pull out my cell and redial him. "Don't ever call that line again," I hold the cell with my shoulder to my ear and take off down the hall to the bathroom to wash my hands.
"Hanging up on your Alpha is a punishable offense." He threatens me.
"Is that so? Maybe I should speak with Amber about bacteria and pregnancy."
"Alright, you win. This time. So do you wanna hear what I called to tell you or not?"
"Fire away."
"She has apparently pulled rank on Alpha Tony, and he is no longer allowed to make decisions for his pack. She also called to ask if us and Ambersy pack can offer them shelter as they've lost to many of their guards. Naturally, we said yes."
"Where the fuck are we putting everyone?" I question.
"Not just we. Alpha Finn was called too. They have room to take significantly more than us."
"When are they coming?"
"So this is where it gets interesting. Now. Malcomb had the balls to call and threaten to kill, or maim Fenris if they didn't send up guards, or whomever they could pull together to aid him." He tells me.
"And this all just took place in the fourteen minutes that I've been away from you?"
"There's definitely something fishy about it. I'm guessing Malcomb knows that Kreed is with us and that sending him so called guards was a ruse. The only question is how did Alek find out and tell him since he wasn't at that meeting."
