Part 20: Uncertain Future

Dunk sighed for the nth time that day. He was at Phuwin’s place. Their other friends, Louis and Figo, were there with them. They had an assignment to submit that night, and all of them are trying to do it. But Dunk’s mind was somewhere else.
“Dunk, what are you thinking of? You are not paying attention.”
Phuwin asked at last. He couldn’t hold it anymore. He noticed the whole day that his friend was not himself. Others also looked at him worriedly.
“I’m fine Phu. I got something on my mind.
“Does it have anything to do with Joong?” Dunk sighed with Phuwin’s question.
“He does. And also, Phoon and Nine.”
“Phoon? That Bastard?” Louis asked angrily.
“Yes. He is back. He has partnered with Nine. Nine is Joong’s old friend.”
“Does Phoon try to bother you?” Figo asked. He was concerned about his friend.
“No, Joong was always there when I met him.”
“So, what’s the problem with Joong?”
“He asked me to be his boyfriend”
The whole room fell into a dead silent. Everyone was stunned to speak. Figo and Louis looked terrified while Phuwin had a very serious look on his face.
“What did you say?” Phuwin asked.
Flashback
“I love you Dunk. Will you be my boyfriend?”
Dunk’s eyes widened with surprise. He couldn’t believe what he just heard. He beamed with happiness. But then, he remembered what Phoon said.
“Nine would be good match for Joong”
Nine had everything that Dunk didn’t. He had money. A stable job. A good family. And he loved Lego also. While all Dunk had was his brother. He had to work for two jobs so he could feed his brother and himself.
Dunk loved Joong. There’s no doubt on that. Dunk couldn’t help but think he’ll be a hindrance to Joong if he got together with him.
Dunk looked at Joong’s eyes directly. His hand caressed Joong’s cheek. He spoke softly.
“Joong, Don’t be impulsive.” Dunk’s eyes looked sad. Like he was trying his best not to cry in front of Joong.
“I’m not impulsive Dunk. I thought of it for a while now. I feel so happy and warm when you are around me. I like the way you take care of Lego. I want you by my side for the rest of my life Dunk.” Joong kept talking. Dunk looked at him in disbelief.
“Joong, I-“
“I know you are not sure about me. But can you give me a chance? Can you give us a chance?” Joong asked holding Dunk’s hand in his gently.
“Joong, I’m really thankful to you for your feelings towards me. But I am no match for you. I think Nine would be a good match to you.” Joong sighed at Dunk’s answer.
“I do not love him. He is just a friend for me.”
“But Joong –“
“Dunk, if you can’t answer me right now, take your time. Think through and give me an answer. I can wait.” Joong put his hand on Dunk’s cheek. Dunk noded his head.

End of flashback
“Dunk, I don’t understand, what exactly stopping you from being together with Joong?”
Louis asked. After hearing Dunk’s story he was sure that Dunk also loves Joong.
“He is a CEO. A famous businessman. I am just a college student. We can’t be together.”
“Did Joong say so? Did he say that your status matter to him?”
Dunk shaked his head. He was pretty sure that Joong did not care about his status at all.

"Then?"

"But people will talk Phu. Joong will look bad."

"Dunk, You are thinking about this too much. People will talk anyway. You can't stop them. But don't ruin your happiness because of them."

"Yes Dunk. Give him a chance."

As Dunk listened to his friends' words of encouragement, he felt a glimmer of hope flicker within him. Perhaps he had been letting his insecurities and fears cloud his judgment, preventing him from embracing the possibility of happiness with Joong.

Taking a deep breath, Dunk made a decision. He would set aside his doubts and take a chance on love, trusting in Joong's sincerity and the strength of their connection.

"I will tell him tomorrow." Dunk said. He was going to start his assignment again. But he got a call from Joong.

"Looks like you don't have to wait until tomorrow." Louis teased. Dunk cursed him and answered the phone.

"What's up Joong?"

Phuwin, Louis and Figo saw the Dunk's face turned pale. The Phone fell from his hand and Dunk fell to ground with his eyes filled with tears.

My head is filled with lot of thoughts today. So This part is quite boring. Sorry for that.

I usually don't update on weekends but I got a small break today. Actually I didn't attend my lectures today. 🤣🤣

I'll update next part in Monday.
