Sierra
I woke up to the sun beaming through my blinds. I groaned and cradled a pillow on my face. I don’t even know if I can consider it a nice dream or a nightmare.
I peek at my phone to check the time.
It’s a bittersweet memory that I don’t want to forget. I bet they are worried about me.
After I took a bath, I went to my mini fridge to get some ice and covered it with a face towel. I spent my 30 minutes putting that on my eyes to lessen the swelling. I have to make sure I look okay before going downstairs.
I saw Mom reading a book in our living room when I came down. I immediately went to him and kissed his cheeks. I guess he’s too focused on what he’s doing; that’s why he didn’t notice my presence.
“Good morning, baby. How’s your sleep?”
“Not that good, but I am better now.” I smiled at him.
“That’s good to hear, and you can come to me anytime to share what happened, if you’re ready.” Nakahinga ako ng maluwag sa sinabi niya at lalong napangiti, I was afraid that he'd ask me questions about yesterday, and I don’t have a choice but to say the truth because I hate lying to my parents.
“Thank you, Mama.”
He answered me with a smile and stood up. “Bet you’re hungry, so I cooked your favorite.”
I was so touched while watching him take care of me. I know I can trust him; it’s just that I also know that he will not remain silent once he knows that Zeus is abusing me physically and verbally.
“By the way, Grey, we’re going to your Tito Caius and Tito Gaze’s house later. They’ll have a welcome party for their daughter, and we're invited to come.”
“They have a daughter?” tanong ko. All this time ay akala ko si Zeus lang ang anak nila.
“Yes. Her name is Sierra. I’m sorry, baby. I thought we already told you that.”
Ngumiti ako at umiling, “Nothing to be sorry, Ma. Where does she live?”
“She’s living in the US, and she’s living with her grandparents. Sierra’s choice.”
“Oh, okay…” The conversation ended and I continued eating my lunch. I was wondering if I should go or not. Hindi ko pa kaya makita si Zeus.
But I think Zeus will not be there since based on my experience, he’s not really a fan when it comes to family celebrations, and I hope so.
“Is there a theme for the party, Ma?” I asked her while my eyes were on the screen. My mom and I are now watching some documentaries on TV while eating snacks.
“Hmmm… not really. You can wear anything you want.” Tumango-tango ako at nag-focus na sa pinapanuod.
At 6 p.m., my dad came home from work. Sinalubong namin siya ni Mama and I gave him a hug. These past few days, they were busy and I’m also busy at school kaya hindi kami masyadong nagkikita kaya namiss ko sila.
