As the sun dips below the horizon, the palace glows with a mystical charm and the sky transforms into a range of warm and vibrant colors. The place is adorned with decorations that are fit for a royal wedding, with flowers and lights carefully arranged to create an ambience of grandeur and festivity. The intricate carvings and designs on the palace walls and columns are highlighted by the golden light of the sunset, giving the palace a regal and majestic appearance.
As I was getting ready for the wedding, I heard my phone ringing. I glanced over to see the screen displaying a notification from her:
"I am ready."
One month ago
I had a meeting with, Ruhanika Thakur, my fiancee whom I will be getting married within one month. Her father, Arvind Thakur, is a self-made millionaire, and CEO of Classic Creation, India's one of the top leading instrumental manufacturing companies.
His support would be very fruitful for my company. Though I did not want to get married any time soon, I cannot let go of this opportunity.
Call me an opportunist but this is the only way to get that deal by marrying his daughter.
For me, nothing matters more than my company which I built with all my passion, hard work and dedication.
After putting in long hours, facing countless challenges and setbacks, making tough decisions and investing my every bit of money and myself, I can not back down now. For that, I am ready to go to any length even if it means being trapped in a loveless marriage.
As I had already given up in love, I did not have any strength in me to survive another betrayal.
I have known Ruhanika for a few years and she is beautiful, quiet, decent and mature. That is more than enough for me. As I entered the restaurant, I immediately spotted her at the corner table of the restaurant, lost in her world.
I coughed a little announcing my arrival and she looked deadly at me and said,
"I am going to run away from my wedding."
She dropped the bombshell and I froze in the midway as I was going to sit.
"What the hell are you saying?"
I asked her as I regained my composure.
"Yahi ki mai shaadi se bhaagne wali hu, I thought I should inform you so do not get a heart attack on your wedding day and could help me."
(That I am going to run away from the wedding.)
"First of all neither you are going to run away nor I will help you and second we will get married that day"
"Do you want to marry me or do you want my father's company sponsorship?"
"Whatever the reason is, we are getting married and that's final."
"You can't force me to marry you. If I reject you once, you will lose this deal. I know you don't want to marry me either. You are only doing this for your company, you jerk ."
"I admit, I am marrying you for the company. But why do you think I will let you escape from this marriage and even help you do that, knowing that I will lose the deal? Do you think I am a fool? And if you really didn't want to marry me then why did you send the marriage proposal in the first place."
"You will be a fool if you marry me knowing there will be no love in our marriage and I cannot marry right now, I have something very important left to do. I just needed you."
"What is that important thing?"
"I can't tell you that, but if you help me, I promise you that you won't lose the deal and you won't have to marry someone out of obligation."
I looked at her thinking about all the possibilities of what was running inside this woman's head but could not think of anything.
She had this blank face which I can't read anything and looks like she has everything already planned, and she looks determined. I thought for a moment.
"How will you do that?"
She smirked.
I knew I had fallen into her trap. She is an intelligent and clever woman and she is taking advantage of my weak point.
"You do not have to worry about that, just prepare for the wedding and tell the plan when it's ready."
"There is no plan, my man will help you, just be ready on time."
"Great and yes the marriage will happen in Jodhpur with a white and golden theme wedding."
"It was nice meeting you Mr. Rudraksh Agihotri. "
She uttered her final words with a victorious smile and a gleam in her eyes and left the restaurant, leaving me restless and unsure about my future.
"Me too, it was my pleasure Miss Ruhanika Thakur."
I called my best friend "Advait, ready ho ja dulhan bhagani hai."
(Advait, be ready we have to elope a bride. )
Present
"I am ready."
As I was going to reply, Yug snatched my phone and hid behind his back.
"Aaj bhi phone pe, ye nahi chalega kuch chand ghante bache hai aapki bachlor jawani ko, abhi bhi time hai bhagna chaahe toh bhaag sakte ho."
(You don't get to decide this on the phone today. You are about to lose your bachelor status, so you still have an opportunity to flee if you prefer to. )
He said seriously which made me doubt if he suggesting something like this. I smacked his head.
"Chup ho jaa saale jab muh kholta hai bakwas hi bolta hai. Now give me my phone."(shut up you idiot, whenever you talk, you always spit nonsense.)
"Kyaa bhai you are no fun. God, please give strength to Bhabhi so she can handle him in future."
I rolled my eyes, snatched my phone from him and gave Advait a signal to execute the plan. She had better keep her promise, or else she will face my anger, which she is not prepared for.
Now everybody is present in the room, Mom, Dad, Yug, Sridha and all the other relatives and cousins.
We do not have a giant family but these are the very precious people of my life and they have no idea what will happen.
I hope they will forgive me. When I noticed that my jewellery was missing, Ayaansh and his sister came into the room with the accessory and then she ran away.
A while later, I proceeded to the pre-wedding ritual and about one and a half later, I was sitting in the mandap and pandit ji reciting mantras for the wedding.
"The moment we have been waiting for is here, please bring the bride now."
Panditji said. I knew that this silence was before the storm and after some time there was still no response and everybody started murmuring among them.
I smirked internally knowing that now there would be no bride meant no wedding. I was happy but my happiness did not remain for a long time when the music started again and the door started to open slowly and a girl in brown and golden lehnga with a heavy veil entered the room.
Now another bombshell dropped and now my face went pale, my eyes bulging out, and my jaw dropped at the unexpected entry of an unknown bride.
She walked slowly and sat beside me, I could not see her face due to the veil.
I know she is not Ruhanika then who is she? I looked at my parents, they gave me a sign to go with the flow.
When the time came to apply the sindoor, an aunty approached from behind and gently lifted the veil.
I saw the bride's face for the first time.
Ruhanika was right. I felt like I was having a heart attack.
I collapsed and the last thing I saw was my parents running towards me. But my eyes stayed on her stunned face as I whispered
"Sanyukta..."
