Same night
"I can't do this anymore", I declared. Advait, who was driving the car looked at me confusingly.
"What happened?", he questioned
"Samyuktha happened"
"Why? What did she do?"
"Nothing, I think I have given her enough time to decide"
"Why? She still wants a divorce"
"Yeah, and I think if I didn't do something, she might do something like last time."
"If she wants a divorce then why don't you agree, the age gap between you two is high, maybe she wants a young handsome man"
"Are you calling me old?"
"No, but she also must have a dream and what is her age 21?"
"Soon to be 22 in a couple of months"
"She's so much younger than you. No wonder she wants a divorce-maybe she's just not into older men."
"Have you ever talked to her? She seems to know everything. She's always prim and proper, taking meticulous notes and managing all the staff efficiently. Just a couple of days ago, she gathered everyone for a budget meeting, and believe me, she was scary.", As I told him as I was reminiscing that day, I could see him controlling his laughter but then he burst into laughter.
"HAHAHAHAHA, I didn't know you were scared of your wife"
"No, that's not it. She's just a little scary. She always needs everything to be perfectly in order and keeps the staff disciplined. Otherwise, she's beautiful and adorable, which is rare to find these days."
"I guess you started to like her, don't you?"
"It's too early to tell"
"OK then, my house has come, I shall take my leave, call me when you reach home."
"Yeah bye"
"Bye", With that, he stepped out of the car and made his way towards the apartment but in the middle, he returned.
"By the way, you know, Ruhanika got married."
"What? "
"Hmm, I thought I should tell you" and he went to his complex.
I switched to the driver's seat and started driving. It was late, but a few vehicles were still on the road. While driving, I couldn't help but think about that night when I saw her almost crying for the first time. Now, I realize that I've been unnecessarily cold toward her for the past month.
I thought I was giving her space, but I didn't realize that by doing so, I was increasing the distance between us. I wouldn't be shocked if she didn't want to be with me anymore. I know her father and brother would be happy and would instantly agree to the divorce.
According to the law, we can get divorced after one year of marriage. In a way, we will be married for a year, but she can still apply for divorce after six months. One month has already passed, which means there are only five months left if that happens.
Suddenly, a sharp and piercing honking sound filled the air, causing me to nearly have an accident when I saw a puppy wandering on the street. I stopped the car to check on it. The puppy seemed like a newborn-where was its mother? I looked around but couldn't find her. The little one appeared injured, so I decided to take it with me.
I hoped Samyuktha wouldn't freak out when she saw it. I placed the puppy in the car and started driving home.
Soon, I reached the entrance of my penthouse and carefully slipped inside, doing my best to remain silent. I entered my room which was opposite her room. I thought to check on her but the crying sound of the little one came to my ears and I decided to aid him first.
In the morning, I will take him to the vet for his check-up. I carefully placed him on the sofa and took out my first aid kit. There weren't any major injuries only some scratches here and there. I carefully aided him and brought some food for him. After that, I let him rest and went to the bathroom to get a shower.
After showering, I felt refreshed and went to Samyuktha's room. Unlike usual, her door wasn't locked today, though I have a spare key for times when it is. Knowing she sometimes has nightmares, I always check on her. Every day around four or five in the morning, I go into her room to make sure she's sleeping soundly. As always, her comforter was on the floor, and her pillows were scattered across the bed. Despite her typically meticulous nature, this is one habit she hasn't mastered. I picked up the comforter and tucked her in. For the past month, it has become my routine to check on her every day.
