"Aarya," my voice tore through the night, instantly swallowed by the endless dark. The silence felt deafening as I walked through the roots and tangled vines.
It was growing darker, and the only source of light was the moon, shining at its brightest. But just as lies often hover over the truth to hide it, today, dark clouds kept blanketing the moon from time to time.
"Aa...Aarya, where are you?" I whispered, hoping that somehow a miracle would happen and I would find her. I'm the reason she was lost in the first place. I'm the reason she is in danger. I'm the reason everything is a mess.
I tried to see past the trees, but everything looked blurry. "Aarya," the name tearing from my throat. I dragged my sleeves across my cheeks to stop the tears, but they just wouldn't stop falling.
I should've seen this coming.
I returned to my room with Devhuti ma'am before Rudraksh joined the search team and went to the forest for Aarya. Both of us were extremely worried for her and couldn't figure out where she might have gone. She is neither in Team A, which went back in the morning, nor anywhere nearby. Or is there any chance she got lost in the wild?
No calls, no messages.
Things were fine last night. What happened all of a sudden?
Both of us waited as the day slipped away and evening arrived. Ma'am looked so tired and stressed that I told her to rest properly. She was reluctant at first, but eventually agreed after experiencing back pain.
Another hour passed, and it was past seven o'clock, but there was no news from the search team or Rudraksh. Time was slipping away, and it would only get harder at night, especially as the mist began to swallow the grounds, making searching even more difficult.
I lingered outside the room for a while to get some fresh air; it was suffocating inside. A sudden ping announced an incoming message, and I froze in place. I opened the phone, hoping for a message from Rudraksh.
I was wrong!
A random number.
It has a video that was downloading, and I was stunned to react to anything. It was Aarya, wandering in the wilds, crying for help.
"Help! Somebody help me! I'm lost."
She was begging for help, crying out for some help, but this person was busy making her video. My hands were trembling, no, my whole body was shaking with anger. Who is this person?
Tej? Aastha? Anant?
Who is it?
Then a message popped up reading.
"Save her before it's too late."
I should've known. I should've known.
I instantly called Tej, who answered on the second ring.
"Hello?"
"Where the hell is Aarya?"
"Oohh, wildcat getting wild."
"Oh shut the hell up and tell me where Aarya is?"
"How would I know? Isn't this your watchdog's job to find her?"
"You bloody b*stard, I'm going to k*ll you. First, tell me, where is she? I know it is you who sent me that video. Now tell me"
"What video? I don't know what you're talking about. I'm currently in bed with my beautiful fiancé kneeling between my legs like an obedient puppy."
My blood was rising with every nonsense sprouting from his mouth. I don't believe him at all. But what if he is telling the truth? Something is crumbling inside me, little by little.
"I don't believe you", I whispered.
Suddenly, there was a video call from his side. I immediately accepted the call, and there he was. "Look yourself, wildcat"
There he was in a luxurious room. Shirtless. And a smirk on his face like he achieved something great.
"Liked the view wild... aahhh f*ck cat."
