"One Iced Americano please" the customer orders, and Jisung takes a note and replies with a coming right up. He chooses the ingredients for the simple drink and adds the ice cubes to the mixer. He hears his other coworker arranging the payment of the man, the chairs moving and the doorbell ringing in the background.
Soon, the shop has emptied again and that was pretty much the rush hour of today. Jisung sighs contently and cleans his working platform with a towel. His coworker tells him he is going to head out for a smoke; he invites him but Jisung respectfully declines. The café is silent again.
"Can I eat this?"
A sudden voice makes Jisung jump with a squeak in his own skin. He looks around, but there is no one else standing there.
Then, he hears some shuffling on the other side of the counter. With big eyes, he bends over and finds the source of the stranger's voice.
"Oh, I haven't seen you there!" Blue pigtails and a cute pink dress wears the girl that ogles at him with likewise big eyes. Jisung immediately notices the load of freckles spread all over (he guesses) the 3-year-old's face.
"Can I, cupcake?"
Jisung blinks a moment before he barks a laugh - but quickly raises his gaze to check the empty place around. "Is there no momma or daddy here with you?"
She just continues to stare and shrugs with her shoulders.
Apart from trying to eat a cupcake without paying, a child without a parent is a bigger problem. So Jisung walks in front of the counter and squats down at her eyelevel. She doesn't step back, just stares back curiously. "What is your name?" he asks in a soft voice.
"Felix"
"Felix?"
"Cupcake?"
Jisung chuckles and nods, and opens the lid from the other side to hand her the wanted cupcake with white frosting and blue stars. Felix wiggles with her hands in excitement and mumbles a thank you before going for a big bite, that smudges both corners of her mouth and the top of her nose.
"Alright little one, but you have to tell me where your mom is" Alas, Felix continues eating and almost looks like she doesn't want to hear the question.
Jisung sighs and thinks. He might have to check outside, maybe her parent is already looking for Felix.
He steps outside, but there is no one who would look like a desperate parent trying to search for their child.
Jisung sighs as he walks back inside to Felix, who munches at the frosting. He points at a table and asks, "Do you want to sit?"
