Hyunjin doesn't know what time it was when his dream ended. He remembers having dreamt about flowers fields and endless skies. Peaceful, actually.
He turns around, wanting to face Jeongin and snuggle closer to him. It's still in the middle of the night, he can sense it from the silent streets outside and the lack of light coming from the windows. Only the streetlamp settled right outside their apartment shines a little in their bedroom, directly on the mattress.
Hyunjin shifts and repositions his arms comfortably under the pillow. He presses himself closer to Jeongin, who is still sleeping as before.
Feeling the cold body temperature against his, Hyunjin freezes. He sits up, and gently places a hand against Jeongin's forehead. It's boiling hot. Jeongin is also breathing hard; his chest rises heavily against the sheets.
Hyunjin's gaze wanders to the rest of his face, recognizing the droplets of sweat running down his nape and chest.
He murmurs something to himself as he hastily but still quietly stands up. Hyunjin immediately walks to the kitchen, where he grabs a bowl and fills it with water and ice. Soaking a cloth in it, he heads back to their bedroom.
This time he hovers over the younger as he sets down the bowl on Jeongin's nightstand. The latter is sleeping on his back, his consistent silent breaths leave his nose audibly. The sheets are not even covering him properly; there is one leg peeking out and half of his chest too. Hyunjin wants to smile at the cuteness of his lover, but focuses quickly on his task.
Placing the wet cloth on Jeongin's forehead, he feels a bit relieved. He doesn't know what has caused the younger a fever, but he will do anything to make it better.
Hyunjin tries to go back to sleep, but his intuition prevents him from it. He wakes up every hour or so, which he uses the occasion to refresh the wet cloth. By morning, Jeongin seems to have less fever and his breathing has come to a calmer state.
"Hyung?" he suddenly hears, as he was busy taking the cloth away from his forehead. Hyunjin halts in his motions, and his eyes meet Jeongin's. "Sorry, you had a fever, Innie. Go back to sleep" he suggests, and turns his body around so that he can dip it in the cold bowl.
He feels Jeongin's gaze fixed on him as he holds his hand against his forehead to check the temperature. "How do you feel?"
"I'm doing okay. Were you awake all night?" The latter sits up and rubs his left eye during it.
Hyunjin shakes his head as he retrieves his hand. "No, just here and there. Couldn't fall back asleep". He motions Jeongin to lay back down and he obliges to it.
"I'm sorry" he mumbles, "you shouldn't have been awake because of me"
Hyunjin tsks as he walks to the other side of their bed and joins him. The younger pats the empty mattress and so he scoots closer.
"Innie, I will always care for you, don't forget that. I don't care if that costs me a night, you'll always be my top priority" The younger has settled in his arms at this point, looking up at him with fond eyes. Hyunjin's heart feels like it's burning with all the affection he has for the younger.
He leans down to press a kiss against his hair. "I love you, got it?"
The younger nods in his hold, and sneaks his arms around Hyunjin's figure. He feels Jeongin kissing lazily his chest and neck before he closes his eyes. Sleep kicks in, because there is nothing better than to sleep in your boyfriend's arms.
