"Open," I say, dashing past Leah, a friend of mine and Amaiah's. Amaiah passes the soccer ball from her position near the corner flag, and it perfectly meets the laces of my cleat. The force of the ball bounces perfectly toward the back of goal net, and Amaiah squeals in excitement.

"Yes, Retta!" she shouts, running over and jumping onto my back.

"This isn't fair!" Leah grumbles, "I have Julia on my team!"

"Um...Hello?" Julia scoffs, placing her hands on her hips as she finally gets back from the other side of the field.

"Sorry, you're just not a good defender," Leah excuses, getting the ball from the tangles of the goal net.

"Water break?" I suggest, glancing back at the guys who sit on the grass next to the soccer field. Axel, Reggie, who is Leah's boyfriend, Reign, and Eros.

Amaiah and Leah agree and follow me back toward our bags where the guys reside.

Julia sighs, trying to catch her breath as she makes her way over.

"I thought they were going to go do their own thing," Amaiah whispers to me, motioning toward the guys. Her raised brow implies how sneaky her comment is.

I shrugged, "I did, too." My eyes flicker to Eros, only to find him already watching me from fifteen feet away. "They all think there is constantly danger lurking in every corner," I muse, nudging her in the side.

"Axel couldn't care less, I think," Amaiah says, talking lowly, "He told me about the other day, you know."

I pause, looking away from Eros. Images flood my mind. Things I've tried to forget since last week.

"Yeah, well, precautions have been taken to avoid another situation like that," I state, assuring her that I'll be just fine. "But I'm still contemplating the facts, you know?"

She slows her walk, wanting to stall the time it took to reach the guys.

"What do you mean?" she questions.

"Like why they targeted me over the others...And the fact that I'm bringing danger into his home, for heaven's sake," I explain quietly.

"You're not the one bringing danger, Amorette," Amaiah says confidently.

I shrugged, deciding it's better not to talk about this subject when Eros was ten feet away from me.

"Damn, it's hot," Julia grumbles, the hem of her t-shirt suddenly in her grasp. At first I thought she was just cooling herself off, but Amaiah and I both silently gasp as she just removes her whole shirt.

With nothing but a flimsy sports-bra underneath, she absentmindedly bends over dramatically right in front of all of the guys to pick up a water bottle. Not just any water bottle, my water bottle.
