"Don't take your eyes off of him," Eros spoke into the phone, his eyes heavily narrowed on the road as he drove.

We were on the way to Reign's house because of some idea they all had to find Alyssa Vertes. Como La Flor by Selena played quietly over the radio.

I hated this for Eros. The stress it was causing him. I could tell he was driving himself crazy over it. His eyes were more sunken than usual, and his body was tense with exhaustion and lack of sleep.

I just wished this could all be over.

"We're close. Just keep the cameras on until I get there," Eros ordered, most likely talking to Reign on the receiving side.

"They found the cunt that was with Alyssa when she went after you and Amaiah," Eros told me, his hand sliding over to my thigh.

"The big scrappy guy?" I asked, grimacing at the image of him sprinting toward me.

Eros nodded, turning onto Reign's street with high-alert.

"He's snooping around in places he shouldn't," Eros muttered, "And he's going to regret stepping foot on my goddamn property."

The song playing is interrupted by another call to Eros's phone, and this one is from his father. I almost cringed at the name Adonis.

Augustine rolled his eyes, and I stared at his reaction blankly.

I understood that he had issues with his father, but there's never going to be a part of me that doesn't think that Adonis may be trying to make amends. He's putting in effort, which is more than my father ever did.

Eros's father is calling him constantly, and my father is locked in a cell across the state.

However, Adonis did try to insinuate that I was a pregnant gold digger.

Eros tried to hide the vulnerability in his expression, but I noticed the way he looked away from the Caller ID, his eyes back on the empty street.

I was glad I was sitting down because my knees were starting to feel weak. I had to give a blood sample at one of my doctor's appointments yesterday. Blood tests were always my worst nightmare. It takes me a whole week just to stop feeling dizzy afterwards.

I took a deep breath as Eros pulled up outside of Reign's house.

I hadn't even realized Eros had gotten out of the car. I was too busy trying to see straight.

He pulled my door open, his fists clenched at his sides instead of out for me to grab like usual.

"Amorette."

"Hm?" I hummed, removing my seatbelt and pushing myself out of the seat.

He nudged me back into the car, his eyes calculating over my face.
