"Thank you," I smiled at my aunt, watching as she set a plate down in front of me.

"You got a job, Emilio?" Miguel asked, already beginning to eat his meal.

Emilio nods, a forkful of rice retreating from his face. "Bartending. I do security sometimes, too."

Miguel seemed shocked to hear Emilio was doing something on his own, but didn't we all? However, Miguel was definitely just happy he was getting out of trouble.

"Good, good!" Jenny exclaims, "Do you like it?"

"Yeah, I enjoy it. It's fun, too," he adds, stuffing his mouth with food so they would stop asking him questions.

"Olivia, did you have a chance to show Amorette the new pool they built down by the park?" Jenny asked, changing the subject. Olivia's brown eyes flickered to mine, and I almost smiled at her expression.

"No, Mamá. We were busy today. Maybe tomorrow?" Olivia suggests, glancing at me with a raised brow. Her face begged me to say no. I didn't know what was so bad about this pool down at the park, but clearly Olivia did not want to go.

"I work tomorrow...we'll plan another time, yeah?" I replied. She nodded, deciding that was enough to convince her mom to stop talking about it.

Aunt Jenny purses her lips, but she moves on with the topic anyway.

"Always so busy, you girls," she shakes her head, "When I was your age, I was traveling all over...that's how I met your father, you know."

Nick cringed, hating the story of how his mom met his dad.

"We know, Mamá," Olivia sighs, "Texas and New Mexico, then Nevada and Arizona."

"Oh, stop it," Jenny quipped, "You two wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for that story."

I grinned. Aunt Jenny loved making her children uncomfortable.

"Mom," Nick groaned, and Miguel coughed out a laugh.

As Jenny continued to poke fun at her children, my phone vibrated in my pocket. I went to go turn it on do not disturb, but it fell from my hand and clattered onto the floor.

Onto the floor...right next to Emilio's foot.

I bent down, but he beat me to it, his eyes suddenly stilling at whatever notification was on the screen.

My heart dropped.

I didn't even get to look at the text before he did, and now I could only imagine what he's reading right now.

There's laughter in my ears as Emilio meets my eyes, then he aggressively sets the phone on the table. My body freezes as he silently excuses himself from the table, taking his beer with him as he heads toward the back door.
