"What in the world?"
Eros ran his hand down his face, sitting in the plush chair across from the hospital bed.
"Eros, do you think he...?"
Augustine shook his head, blinking like he didn't know what to believe.
I glance at Rika, the poor woman who looks so helpless right now. The doctor said she was stable, but her body was in critical condition especially with the baby being the main priority.
Her skin seemed lifeless, and her lips barely had any color to them. She had a bandage wrapped around her head beneath her curly hair.
I turned to look through the door's window, making sure Noah hadn't come back from going to get some water.
I took a deep breath, knowing that this was the last thing that Eros needed right now.
"You should go and rest, Augustine," I told him, "I'll stay here in case she wakes up. I don't want Noah to be alone with her."
Eros's eyes narrowed, and he looked at me as if I was crazy.
"No fucking chance I'm leaving you here with the possibility of him being at fault for this whole situation," Eros snapped, standing from his position. "Rika ain't gonna protect you if she's unconscious."
I raised my eyebrows, shocked that he thought I needed to be protected.
Reign cleared his throat. My attention flickered to him.
Oh, I forgot he was here.
Eros looked at him, then back at me. "Quinton will come and take you back to the house."
"No, Eros. I need to stay," I argued, "I am not the one who hasn't slept in their bed in days."
Eros's glare was not of malice but of annoyance that I was so persistent. I couldn't help it, though. He needed a good night's rest.
"I won't be able to sleep knowing that you are here without me."
My lips parted, and the beeping of the machines drowned out my own heightened heartbeat.
"Well, it sounds like both of you should just go home, then," Reign pipes up, looking between the two of us like we're both stupid.
Oh, wait.
Maybe we should just both go.
But...then Reign would be by himself between Noah and an unconscious Rika.
