I sat in fifth period, hiding my phone beneath my desk, getting spammed with notifications on the group chat.

Emilio: I'm nuttingg guysssssdd

Liza: SHUT YO EMILIOOOO NOBDOY CARES SBOUT TOUR CRUSH AU

Gisselle: stooooooop Siri keeps reading me out ur stuoid messages

Ana: Shush❤️

Emilio: No it's FU now 😎 for FELIX

Me: WHAT ON EARTH IS HAPPENING

Felix, huh? Out of anyone he could like he chose Felix. Thats weird, I mean he could've chosen anyone else but at the same time why does it matter to me?? It's not like I like him or anything. It just feels weird.

Liza: bro he just got here 😭😭😭😭

Gisselle: whyyyy emilio

Ana: this is ᭙ꫝꪗ I don't read the 𝔾ℂ

I let out a slight quiet giggle at Ana's responses, finding them quite amusing.  I then heard the teacher say something that quickly sparked my attention.

"You guys will be out into groups for this project, I don't want any fooling around because this is 90 percent of your grade. This is why the groups will be chosen randomly." She yapped as she walked around the class, tapping a ruler against her calf.

I sighed and scribbled around my paper, slipping my phone back into my pocket.

The teacher then read out the all the pairs, having me paired with Luis.

I knew Luis from way back, in elementary and middle school. We didn't talk much but knew each other, so I guess this wouldn't be that bad.

"Susanna, you're smart, right? You'll carry our group."
Luis said as he walked over to my table, I laughed awkwardly and nodded my head.

"I guess you could say that."
I replied, grabbing some practice papers the teacher handed us before we worked on our project.

As I worked on the paper, I could feel Luis's eyes on me. It started feeling uncomfortable so I lowered my head, trying to keep my focus on the paper.

"Weren't you the girl that was friends with Felix?" He questioned me, which quickly caught my attention.

Felix— friend? Wait.. Now I knew where I recognized him from. He was my best friend back in first grade.

I stared back at Luis for a moment before finally responding. "Yeah.. Why?"

"Just asking."
Luis replied quickly, looking away at the board.

Weird.

I continued working on the practice sheets but the fact that that familiar face that I landed on the other day, was my old childhood best friend wouldn't leave me alone. Damn, I hadn't thought of him in years.

And he still looks good as hell.
