Introduction's

A few months later

"How're you doing?" Cate was driving, she smiled at Y/N who was biting her fingernail's. There was a silence. Y/N was in her own world and did not hear Cate. Cate laughed. "Y/N!!" Cate tried to get her attention. "Sweetheart!" She called.

Finally Cate just slammed on the brakes, lurching them both forward. "Jesus!!" Y/N yelled, looking over at Cate who had an ornery grin on her face. "What was that for??" Y/N asked, confusion all over her face.

"I couldn't get your attention" Cate said, shoving a handful of cashews in her mouth and driving. Y/N looked at the literal mental patient in the drivers seat. Cate smirked at her. "I was asking you how you were doing! Not well apparently?" Cate laughed.

"I'm sorry... I'm just nervous" Y/N said. "You don't say..." Cate looked at Y/N's nail that was bleeding. Y/N hid it in embarrassment. "It's important! Of course I'm going to be nervous... I mean Cate, he's your son... and Lena... she's your ex wife" Y/N said.

"Don't worry about Lena, she's fine and as for Ash?" Cate smiled. "He's got my temperament" She laughed. Y/N put her head in her hands. She groaned. Cate just laughed. "I'm kidding!!! You'll be fine!!! He does have my temperament but he's good and respectful... and you're..." Cate grabbed Y/N's hand.

"You're wonderful" She said kissing her hand. She looked over at Y/N, lovingly. When she looked at Cate, she felt all her worries melt away. "He will love you, just as I do" Cate assured. "You know I'm just teasing you" Cate winked.

Y/N's cheeks turned a rosy hue. "I love you" Cate said. "I love you" Y/N said back. "Thank you for caring so much" Cate said. "Of course I care... I plan on spending the rest of my life with you... You know that, right?" Y/N looked over at Cate. She had a far out look in her eyes.

"Cate..." Y/N said. She just looked at Y/N and smiled. "You know that... right?" Y/N asked. Cate just kissed her hand. It wasn't a response but it was sweet. "Right" Cate said, smiling lovingly at her. "I do know that" she smiled.

If you would've asked Cate 4 or 6 months ago, maybe she wouldn't have known but she did now. She knew how much she meant to Y/N. Y/N never let her forget it. She felt a connection she never felt before with Y/N, not even with Lena. It was different with her.

"We're here" Cate said, pulling into the driveway. It was a nice place, Cape Cod style house, typical midwestern look. It had a lovely porch and lots of yard space. A perfect place for a family. Then she realized, this is where Cate used to live with Lena. They bought this house together. After they divorced, Cate moved to the house she was in now.

This was a little weird for Y/N, coming to the place Cate and her ex wife had previously purchased to raise a family and spend their life in. She shook the feeling though. These thing's are always weird, right? Split families and situations like these were always complex.

Y/N was young though and never thought she'd be in a situation like this. She told herself at the start that she'd adapt to whatever needed it. It was all for Ash, even if she didn't meet him yet. It was weird, she was already kind of indirectly a parental figure in his life and she hasn't met him.

She smiled. If this all goes well, and in the direction she wanted...she'd be a step mom to this child. It's crazy to think about! She smiled to herself. It all started feeling so surreal. She thought about all the pictures she's seen of this boy, Cate's boy. He looked like her.

Cate gave birth to him but Lena had custody. They agreed it would be best and fair that way after they split. Cate said he had her temperament. She smiled at the thought of this child having Cate's quick wit and sass. She already loved him if she was honest because he was Cate's. He was a piece of her, how could she not?

"Momma!!!" A four foot tall boy Naruto ran at the Australian woman. He was wearing Shrek Croc's, Nike sweat pants and a Mötley Crüe shirt. Oh my God... this was absolutely Cate's child. Holy shit..."hello darling" Cate kissed him all over his head and picked him up.

"I missed you!" He said. "I missed you too sweetheart" she hugged him tight and smooshed his face against hers. "How was school?" She asked. "Some kid was being an ass to me and I wanted to hit him... but I didn't" he said.

"Good! I'm proud of you for showing restraint! We need to work on this whole cursing thing though" she narrowed her eyes at him. He rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. Yep. That's Cate's son. "Yes momma" he said, begrudgingly.

"Ash, I have someone I want to introduce you to" she said, smiling ear to ear. He looked over at Y/N, eyes scanning her and head cocked. Holy cute... "this is Y/N, Ash. This is mommy's girlfriend" she said. He got up at walked over to Y/N.

   "Hello, Mommy's girlfriend" he said seriously, extending his hand out for Y/N to shake. "Hello there! It's so nice to meet you!" Y/N smiled ear to ear. "Firm handshake! Good!" Cate coached. Y/N laughed at her, teaching her son the value of a good, firm handshake. That was so on brand for her.

   Ash put his hand on his hips, proudly. "I'm Ashton but my friend's and family call me Ash" he said. "You're family, so that includes you" he said. Y/N felt tear's forming in her eyes but she was being brave about it and keeping them in. Cate looked at her and smiled.

   "Well, that means a lot to me. Thank you, Ash" Y/N smiled. "What do you think about climate change?" He asked. This made Y/N lose it. Cate just smiled ear to ear, laughing at her son. "What?" He asked, looking at Cate.

   "Nothing Darling, that's just a heavy subject. I don't think Y/N or myself was expecting that topic. That's all" she smiled. "Oh... when is a good time to talk about this?" He looked at Y/N seriously. "Honey, why don't you wait until after dinner to talk about climate change?" Cate asked.

    "Yes momma" he smiled, dimples prominently showing. "Alright babe, let's go inside. Y/N hasn't met mommy yet" Cate tousled his hair. "Okay" Ash Naruto ran back to the house. "Oh my god, I love him. He is so your son!" Y/N smiled at Cate. Cate smiled proudly back.

   "You think?" Cate asked. "Oh yeah!!" Y/N assured. "He likes you" Cate said. "You think?" Y/N asked. "Absolutely! He usually takes a while to warm up and talk about thing's like climate change" Cate laughed. Y/N smiled ear to ear. "I'm glad" she said.

   They got to the porch and Lena stepped outside before them. "Hello!!!" She said cheerfully, holding out her arms to hug Y/N. "Oh!!" Y/N said, hugging her back. She was taken back to say the least.

   When Lena pulled away, Y/N got a good look at her. She was so tall, taller than Cate even. She had tight, natural curls, she was wearing it down and there was so much volume. She had brown hair and green eyes, she was absolutely stunning.
Y/N was honestly taken back by how beautiful she was.

"I'm so happy to finally meet you!" Lena said. "It's lovely to meet you! Wow! You're beautiful!" Y/N just blurted out. She could've kicked herself for speaking before thinking. Y/N looked over and Cate was smirking at her. Y/N blushed, mildly embarrassed. "Hi, Cate!" Lena smiled and held her arms out to hug Cate. "Hey" Cate smirked, hugging her ex wife.

   "Did Ash give you the third degree?" Lena laughed. "No, but he did make sure to let me know we are talking about climate change after dinner" Y/N smiled. "That's Cate's son for you" Lena smirked. "I mean... I care about thing's like that, sure but this one really drove the point home for him" Lena teased, pointing at Cate. They all just laughed.

"He's gotta learn, it's a serious matter" Cate said, a little less than half jokingly. Lena just shook her head. "Come on, I've got some peri peri chicken on the grill out back" Lena instructed. They followed her to the back yard, where Lena cooked their meal and they chatted a bit.
