Chapter 42 : Eager

The deck of the Moby Dick was bustling with activity as the crew went about their duties, but amidst the organized chaos, you found yourself seated comfortably on the floor, a spread of delicious food laid out before you.

With a contented smile, you indulged in the savory treats, savoring each bite as if it were a taste of home.

Opposite you, the imposing figure of Whitebeard sat in his chair, a towering presence amidst the bustling crew.

His gaze was fixed on the horizon, deep in thought as he contemplated the journey ahead.

Marco stood faithfully by his side, his expression one of unwavering loyalty as he kept a watchful eye on the surrounding seas.

Despite the weight of responsibility that rested on his shoulders, Whitebeard couldn't help but be drawn to the scene unfolding before him.

With a hearty laugh, he gestured towards you, his voice carrying over the din of the crew.

"Looks like someone's enjoying themselves," he remarked with a grin, his eyes twinkling with amusement as he observed your carefree demeanor.

You glanced up from your meal, a mischievous twinkle in your eye as you met Whitebeard's gaze.

"Well, when the food's this good, how could I not?" you replied with a chuckle, your mouth still full of delicious fare.

Marco couldn't help but smile at the playful banter between you and Whitebeard, his own features relaxing as he watched the scene unfold.

"Y/N-chan, you mentioned your brother joining my crew, correct? I didn't realize that Umi-chan had another child," Whitebeard inquired, seeking clarification.

Pausing momentarily from your meal, you glanced up, a brief interruption in your munching.

"Oh, I'm sorry if I gave the wrong impression. I have sworn brothers, and one of them joined your crew. When I heard the news, I couldn't contain my excitement and decided to pay a visit," you explained.

"So Hasumi didn't have another child, yoi?" Marco sought further clarification.

You nodded in confirmation before returning your attention to your food.

Meanwhile, Whitebeard chuckled heartily, his laughter rumbling like distant thunder.

"Gurararara! I see. What a shame. Umi-chan had always mentioned she wished for a bigger family."

Pausing in your eating once more, you wiped the crumbs from your face, your expression thoughtful.

"What do you mean, Mr. Whitebeard? Based on the letters she received from you, she had quite a large family," you remarked, a hint of emotion in your voice.

Whitebeard was momentarily taken aback by your words, his gaze softening as he absorbed their meaning.

You continued, your smile brightening the atmosphere.

"Mom might have only been with you guys for about a month, but you were – and still are – her family," you asserted, your words carrying a sense of sincerity and gratitude.

In that moment, Marco caught a glimpse of Hasumi's smile in yours, a bittersweet reminder of the woman they both held dear.

He could see the tears forming in Whitebeard's eyes, a testament to the depth of his emotions.

"I see... I wish I could have been there for her funeral," Whitebeard murmured, his voice thick with regret as he closed his eyes, seeking solace in the memories of the woman they had lost.
