The next day, after the children come home from school and Eric and Meredith get home from work. Mrs. Hodge is on the phone. A worried look on her face. She sees Eric and hands him the phone.
Eric listens to his father's voice for about 2 minutes, before screaming "No! He can't be! He can't be dead! There is no way! I - I was supposed to protect him!"
As his screams turn into sobs, Meredith hugs him and takes the phone. She says "I am sorry. I'll call you back later. Please, just give me time to calm him down."
"Okay." says Jack.
Meredith hangs up the phone and tells the kids to go play. Then she starts to comfort Eric. When he calmed down, Meredith asks if he want to talk about it.
He says "Ethan got into a car crash, while he was away on a business trip and he didn't make it. He, he died on the Sean."
Meredith understands and as she silently cries, she comforts Eric.
